NEW GAME! is about game development company. Hey Matrix & co, is your work like that?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

What would get attention of wargamers in here... How about war manga about historical wars?

Ad Astra - Scipio to Hannibal
This manga follows Hannibal and his adversary Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus. Hannibal and his army goes around Europe raping, pillaging, and burning, though most of the chapters focus on Italy. Hannibal's victories are described in good detail as are formations and strategies. This could be useful for ancient era wargames.

Vinland Saga
This manga is about vikings. Peaceful explorer and merchant vikings are side characters and focus is on the ones who conquered significant part of the Britain. War is Hell, and in this manga vikings have every intent of making it so: they rape, pillage, and burn. Manga has some historical narrative and characters, including Leif Ericson, Thorkell the Tall, Canute the Great, and others. Action goes little over the top which breaks suspension of disbelief: here Thorkell throws a spear length of a mile and he hits with it! I don't see this as useful for wargaming as Ad Astra. Still good and entertaining read where author has some idea (if not a good one) what he is doing.

Otome Sensou - Divichi Valka
Kingdom of Bohemia, 1420. Beginning of Hussite Wars. Infantry firearms enter the service. I haven't read much of this yet. Enough to know manga has rape, pillage, and burn, and I don't dare to link here the pages where it is done. Elsewhere on the Internet some history nut piped in manga has historical characters and historical accuracy. This is new manga so it doesn't have much of a read yet.

A girl from Czech is cohabiting with my brother. If this manga gets printed in czech language, it'll make a good gift to her. Or maybe not :P

Does anyone in here know any historical manga/anime about middle ages Japan and its civil wars?

Another artist lost too soon: Jiro Taniguchi, known for the remarkable richness of his backgrounds, has passed away at 69.

Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Let's see...
His works such as The Walking Man, The Summit of the Gods and The Magic Mountain, stood apart in a genre sometimes seen as rooted in extreme violence and pornography.
The Summit of the Gods seems to be seinen genre.
In Japanese, the word "seinen" literally means "youth", but the term "seinen manga" is also used to describe the audience of comics like Weekly Manga Times and Weekly Manga Goraku which are aimed at men into their 50s.
...
Seinen manga can focus on action, politics, science fiction, fantasy, relationships, sports, or comedy and while they may contain sexual content (as well as other mature material), it remains predominantly more infrequent than in the seijin-muke manga.
What the Hell? Did writer of the news article got genres mixed up or what?

[edit]
On the second thought, Berserk is also in seinen genre, and it is pretty much extreme in violence & porn.

Samurai Jack is back -- after more than a dozen years. (He's apparently not happy about the delay, either.)

Fire up the DVR's -- the series now runs late at night.

I just read something funny about Goblin Slayer:
If this was instead a manga about cute high school girls doing something, people would be having a ******* meltdown and screaming their heads off about "sexualization," "pedophilia," "pandering" and "moeshit," but when it comes to rape nobody has any issues.
Censored the f-bomb. And I seriously laughed at that [:D]

Great majority of fantasy works are ... how Frodo put it? Something about tales about great adventures, heroic deeds, and whatnot. The stuff like Hercules (Heracles?), Knights of the round table, and Lord of the Rings. Goblin Slayer is almost like fantasy equivalent of All Quiet on the Western Front, Apocalypse Now Redux, and Stalingrad, which leaves several (human) characters raped, dead, and broken in various ways.

A review of the WWII Pacific Theater battles, Kantai Collection style:

(But it is kind of sad listening to the last words as one after another of the "fleet girls" gets sunk. . .)

Anime you say?

When it comes to favorite movies for me it's hand down Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence movies as well cyberpunk being my favorite genre and they where very thought provoking when I was done watching. Honorable mentioning of some other titles of movies I liked a lot would be Jin-Roh, Sword of the Stranger and Wings of Honneamise: Royal Space Force.

As for the Series to name a few of my favorites those would be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1 & 2, Psycho Pass Season 1, Vision of Escaflowne, Code Geass: lelouch of the rebellion & R2, Fate/Zero, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic, Future Diary and Hellsing Ultimate.

Now ofcourse I have guilty pleasures like the Mind F--k that is Evangelion [:D] but also things I ignore they exist like the Ghost in the Shell RISE OVA's, the movie that followed suit after the OVA's and the live action abomination. Now it's fair to note that I haven't bothered watchin the new anime movie of Ghost in the Shell and the live action one as the first well from what I could gather of the OVA's in which the writer turned all characters into a running joke and plot was left to be desired I wanted to prevent further damage done to my holy grail of franchises. The Live action, well knowing Hollywood they would trade in plot for action and not be thought provoking in the slightest so why would I even bother.

In that case, I recommend you following:
A.D. Police
Bubblegum Crisis
Parasite Dolls
Mardock Scramble & sequels

Do you know any good war anime & manga? I have already typed out here most of the good stuff I know of.

[edit]
One more:
Saga of Tanya the Evil. Mages using guns!!?

I've seen A.D. Police but that was really really long ago and knowing it's related to Bubblegum Crisis and so is Parasite Dolls for that matter I'll have to check those out. Probably going re-watching A.D. Police in the process as well.

Tow Ubukata, I do not like his work. I've seen the 2 flicks and it stopped me from watching the third. He's also responsible for Ghost in the Shell:Arise and he further managed to dissapoint me with Psycho Pass season 2.

You're well informed. Bubblegum Crisis was first, A.D. Police is kind of prequel to it, and Parasite Dolls is the new one. Is also Bubblegum Crash, but that one has bad reputation, though my only gripe is sub-par voice acting. You could also be interested about Pandora in the Crimson Shell : Ghost Urn. Manga is from Masamune Shirow (best known by Ghost in the Shell), though much of the artwork (at least the characters) is drawn by someone else. Shirow-san couldn't get it right, and he had enough balls to admit it.

Ah, the forum has an anime thread. Most excellent.
Tell me, has anyone here watched "Irresponsible Captain Tylor"?

The obvious question is - "Will each shell do at least 0ne Million Dollars worth of damage?" If not, someone needs to look at this again and rethink it.

I have read more of this and paid my respects to author by paying for Kindle versions. Manga blends together fantasy and realistic combat: armor isn't useless, and Goblin Slayer pierces goblin's helmet with a pick instead of with a sword slash. Also weapons wear down after repeated strikes. I want a JRPG like this! Can you recommend me any?
