CL Achilles takes a sub torp off of Auckland and sinks. That sucked.

His sweeps at Rangoon are wearing my fighters down good. I can't seem to get an edge on them. I'll wind up just resting everyone. He hasn't sent bombers that way. I'd say within a week or so, I'll have all my troops gathered at Moulmein. Then I'll push east with a big force and threaten Thailand.

On the other hand. his sweeps at Bataan are getting pounded back. Better quality warriors, I guess.

I was trying to bomb San Fernando, but nobody would fly, so I'm switching them to Clark. I was tempted to have the dive bombers join in, but I want to catch shipping with them. Between the two VP squadrons and my O-47s, I have 360 degree coverage for naval search. The O-47s are covering south, so less range out there.

My transports cleared the Philippines and are about 40% of the way to Iwo. Everyone should get back fine.

In the States and Pearl, I'm getting troops prepped. A bunch are already getting set for the Gilberts, but I'm tasking others with Lunga, Ndini and even Noumea. This is several months out yet, but when the time comes, I want everyone ready.

Philippines transports are now a couple hexes south of Iwo, heading east. I realized I've nobody prepping for Tarawa, so they're going. I'm half expecting that he has nobody there anyway. One group of xAPs bound back for San Francisco has been kept at Pearl, as I need invasions ships, however primitive for the job.

Transports are well clear of Iwo now, with nobody spotted. All should be well there. I didn't think I'd run a supply run to Luzon with almost no hits. One AK is wounded, but not bad and can keep up.

Hornet arrived in East US, so it'll be awhile before she gets to Pearl. I had enough dash-2 and dash-3 Dauntlesses in the pool to replace the Helldivers she had on board.

Zuiho is chasing my ships back to Colombo. Both carriers ate torps, and Indomitable is gone. How one little light pissy IJN carrier can cause this much trouble drives me nuts. Both my cruiser forces whiffed trying to intercept. They'll take another shot before departing.

I'll keep up the attacks on Clark. I can probably win eventually. My bombers are refusing to fly, which is frustrating.

My convoy is north of Marcus. AK Castor met a sub and took a hit. She was hit by air near Luzon before. At 5 kts, I'm not dragging everyone else down to accompany her. I doubt she'll make it, but who knows? If that's my only losses to this mission, I'll be happy.

The RN is straggling their way back to Colombo. My mistake was thinking they were more than they actually were. Most of the BBs will be out for awhile. I'll probably have to send some to Cape Town to recover.

You do not control the hexside between Clark and Manila, I suspect. He does. Therefore, supplies are not flowing to your forces at Manila. Do you have any transports remaining at Bataan? If you made a small landing at Batangas and moved a unit north into Manila, you would gain control of the hexside between Manila and Batangas, allowing supplies to flow into Manila from Batangas.

Remember, in hexes containing forces from both sides, control of the hexsides entering the hex is crucial. The last side to move units through a hexside controls that hexside, blocking the supply route for the other side. (This also blocks the retreat path and movement of units from that hex through that hexside, since they will only retreat or move along a valid supply path.) The key to the ground combat engine of this game is to master the art of controlling the correct hexsides along a front.

KB did come north, meeting my forces near Marcus Island. Saratoga goes down. Yorktown eats some bombs, but no torps. If unmolested, maybe she'll get back. Kaga eats one bomb and one torp. I'm doubting it's fatal. The disconcerting part is that all of York's squadrons are completely empty of planes now, to the fight is gone. None of my transports got hit, though the accompanying oiler did get sunk. I'm moving everyone NE. Hopefully he still heads west. I don't know if I can shake them, though.

Doesn't look good for the home team. Most of the KB is in good order and it will be a miracle if anything survives. The Kaga is a battle-cruiser convert and is tough she might even be in fighting trim and able to conduct operations as there was no explosions listed for the hits she received. Nice to see a TBD hit with a torp I haven't had that luck in several carrier battles and use them mainly for ASW ops until replaced with TBFs.

The think about Japanese damage control is we are never sure. The carrier may survive but either way it must be in need of extended repair. Some small consolation.

Land based air must be your critical priority about now I imagine but "careful navigation" will be required.

I was hoping Warspite's sacrifice would let her live, but it doesn't look like it. She's making 1 kt as it is. At this point, carrier ops are pretty much curbed until mid to late 1943. Probably 2 years away, at the rate we're flipping turns.

His ships are about 5-6 hexes east of mine moving NE like mine are. My transports are 10 hexes NW of them, all unseen, so hopefully, they'll all get away. They're routed to pass near the Aleutians at this point. I'm valuing them more than the warships at this point. I'm wondering about his fuel situation with KB, as they probably booked it pretty good to get up there so fast.

At Melbourne, the first group of troops are unloaded. Now unloading are the 2nd British Paras and the Natal Mounted Rifles Rgt. The 6th and 9th Australian Divisions plus the 7th Armoured Brigade will reach Melbourne next turn. My defenses there are credible at this point. Nearly 1,000 AV are currently there and should be boosted nicely soon. With KB running amok, he could have prevented this.

Fuel there is over 100k. Supply currently around 60k, but I'm getting convoys out. I can't remember if there's HI in Melbourne, so maybe supply will keep up on its own.
