RE: Kane and Unable ;]
I have been going back and forth with myself whether to just ignore Java and move on the Phillipines quickly but my supply LOC is thin with MrKane still holding Sorong 5/5 airfield.
Also, there is 7.5 million tons of supply at Capetown and no real easy place to put it along with the small size 9 shipyard at Soerbaja.
So I have decided to slow my advance and take out a good section of Java to ease my supply issues and give me time to position more fuel and take on some better fighter aircraft for my carriers.
A large force will land at Tjpoe just west of Soerbaja and plan on advancing from there. MrKane has developed the airfield just west which cannot be bombarded by sea. I do not know how much supply he has but I do know that he actually is rebuilding the HI at Soerbaja still so he either cares a lot about it or has not noticed he is bleeding.

If someone is whispering in MrKanes ear about the pace of the air war he does not seem to be listening. Sorties are in the 9000's most days.

Soerbaja falls on the 2nd attack. MrKane is fortifying the mountain bases that are not bombardable by sea.
On the plus side it appears the Japanese lost 300,000 fuel.

MrKane is still walking out of Burma giving it all up without leaving any sacrificial troops. He just evacuated Rangoon.

He does seem to use an "all or nothing" approach to everything.

Well I hate Burma, so in this case I'm not really seeing much wrong. Too easy to get trapped in Burma and lose a lotta units. safer to withdraw into the jungles east of Rangoon where you have better perimeter ...

Not saying he is doing anything wrong. He is still really working his air force. This turn was over 9500 sorties.
I have the northern coast of Borneo so the chance of him getting trapped is significant.
It appears he is moving troops from Rabaul and the pacific islands as well. I think he is pulling in his defensive ring.
Not that it is going to save him. Troops will be landing at Cotabato within 2 weeks. It is lightly defended and I have 100% prep on a division plus multiple tank units so the goal is to get that up in strength and then invade the phillipines.
RE: Kane and Unable ;]
Watching to see Mr Kane of the defense. Haven't seen that side of him much.

Scenario 2, so I suspect he is doing ok for fuel and oil...especially with some of the big carriers sunk.
Plane wise, I suspect he has a huge fighter training program going on...given what you say of his aggressive sweeps. Also, I would expect a huge kamikaze program.
I suspect you will face some last generation fighters soon...perhaps even before Dec of 1944.

This is so unfair.
My carrier groups were escorting an invasion of Cotobato. There were some japanese surface ships west of Babeldaob so I thought I would just sail up under the bend in the island in nice shallow water to prevent any surface attacks. My dumb ass managed to unload 2 extremely good new zealand AA units into the bush due to stupid settings. I wanted to hold them over and unload them after Cotobato was taken so that they would avoid damage and now they are damaged and stuck in the bush *sigh* That wasnt the unfair part though.
MrKane advanced what appears to be all of his carriers in one group south from Manila. My carrier groups caught him just within 6 hex range which was my max setting in bad weather. Lots of bomber groups were fragmented off resulting in a slaughter of my carrier forces.
Except it didnt happen. When I opened the turn file and looked at the planes there were only 179 destroyed total. The weather on the actual turn prevented MrKanes significant detection and prevented any planes from flying. To make it even more unfair a combat at Batavia that resulted in a Japanese retreat showed as a draw in the phantom combat report.
So now I know my opponents carrier group composition (all fighters, no bombers), and if you notice, he is already flying SAM's off his carrier decks.
Damn unfair for the game to give me all that free info!!

Interesting that he is using his carriers as a mobile CAP Trap. The Japanese used their carrier in late 1944 to draw Hasley away and allow Kurita in to attack Leyte Bay with his surface TF. It would have worked if Kurita had pressed harder as the Taffys there were high vulnerable and had few escorts. So consider it a new way to use Carriers that would other wise be at the mercy of the Allied death star.

He has over 800 fighters on the decks of those carriers. I am seriously considering standing my ground and launching an attack with 10% CAP.

Howdy mike, if you recall i tried a similar tactic against you outside Shanghai and it didn't work. Hellcats ensure that the strike packages will get through and IJN carriers will burn.
I say go for it.[:D]
RE: Kane and Unable ;]
I would be more surprised not to the Sam there at this date.[;)]
RE: Kane and Unable ;]
He will probably stagger CAP between 5-15K might be best to come in high 20K plus.

Due to an obvious computer malfunction my entire air force attacked his carrier group with no fighter escort....
Lost 450 planes... Ooops....
Otherwise the war is going swimmingly!!

Yikes!! [:(] Did you manage to hit anything at all?
Your gameplay pace is nothing short of amazing -- for both of you, obviously. I couldn't match this even if this were my fulltime job!

I do this when I am not at my job. Fortunately my job does not demand that much of my time.
The one plane that got through did not hit anything. He had 800 fighter cap up. I would have gotten through if my fighter settings were right.
No worries, the pools can more than handle naval dive bomber and torpedo bomber losses.
