Public Beta v1.11.00 is Now Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

It was rewritten around 1.08 I think. It depends on pool numbers, utilization, future production and (slightly) on newness.

So if I have a feel for how it works in 1.10beta, and apart from the bug of arriving planes swapping being fixed, are there any other differences I will find from 1.10beta to 1.11beta?

I purchased my copy of War in the East through steam. As this Beta includes play balance changes
when might this patch be available to be downloaded through steam?

Steam Release might have been held-off by something, I've already asked for official information/statement about it.

This is my first post, though I've been reading since the 90s. Been playing wargames since Avalon Hill and S&T. Played my first computer wargames on a Fat Mac.

I think you should reconsider your decision on the German 1st Cavalry Division movement. You're right that the division had a lot of motorized/mechanized units, but if you check the gliederung for 22 June 1941: the division had 7 cavalry battalions, 1 bicycle battalion, 3 horse artillery battalions, 1 motorized AT Battalion, 1 motorized Pioneer Battalion, and 1 armored Recon Battalion (Lehr which was attached). Most of its other support units were also motorized. The division only advanced about 1/3 the distance of the other two divisions (3rd and 4th Panzer) in the XXIV Corps (Mot); and was reassigned to the 2d Panzer Group by 1 July 1941. The other factors to consider, is an old military axiom that you can only move as fast as your slowest element. The Handbook on German Military Forces (15 March 1945) gives the average march rates as Infantry (3 mph), Horse Mounted (6 mph), Bicycle (8 mph), Motorcycle, Cars, Trucks (22 mph), Half-Tracks (16 mph), Tanks (12 mph). Average divisional movement distances are 20 miles per day (Infantry) based on weather, 90-150 miles per day (Motorized), and 60-90 miles per day (Armored). Cavalry is not specifically mentioned, but 40-50 miles per day would probably be appropriate.

Actually soviet sappers were more suited for defensive operations and construction than for offensive ops. That only changed in 1943 with a major reorganization.
In the next game version the 41-42 Sapper Regts may be disabled (or changed to construction), reappearing in 1943.
I don't like the idea of disabling them entirely as the soviet player should have a possibility to speed up fort construction speed if he decides to invest manpower and APs. The construction units have all crappy construction value.
And if you make them construction units they should convert to multirole sappers in 1943 without AP cost/experience loss.
Regards and as always thanks for the hard work

If I make then construction (as Engineer-Sapper) then they will stay that way.
Does anyone build the on-map Assault Sapper Bdes from ~1943 on? You will then have to use them. Another option would be to reclassify them as support but due to being a Bde they won't be attachable to units (only HQ).
Lots of changes to consider/weight without killing balance.

1) So the idea is to make current sapper regiments construction units only. They will (hopefully) have high construction value to help building forts but will not join battles as support units right?
2) On Map sapper brigades are useless I think as they use up stacking space for little value.
3) Is there no way to make sapper-construction-regiments construction units only in 1941/42 and let them convert to pioneer-sappers in 1943+ without exp. loss and AP cost? It looks like a fair compromise to me.

Have deleted working version at level .10 (all Matrix files) and reloaded original CD. Tried to update to level .11. Not successful. Suggestions?

(This process worked successfully to get level .10 on new computer.)

BTW, original version executes, just not satisfactory specs.
