Short AAR - PBEM game Kursk 43

Post by Cavalry Corp »

This is a short self penned AAR
PBEM game
43 Offensive north and south of Kursk but first we have to get ready and let the Russians think we are weak in that sector- so let them advance a bit, the Italians vanish so that give them further confidence to advance on the Hungarians.
Russians are suspicious north of K and pull back 3 hexes. Leaving the level 3 forts - they fail to see there is also a big build up SE of Kursk -

The preceeding summer - autumn - winter saw a massive fight for Moscow. That has now ended in the trenches WW1 style.

Pictures shows Moscow sector as the Kursk offensive opens 17th June 43.

June 17th - Kursk sector after air recon - cannot believe my good fortune to the SE of K. They have seen no threat at all - but there wait 3 PZC including 2 SS pzc and The mighty GD.
the preeding mud turn caught me out I had don HQ build up for 5 PZC, now had to wait - the Russians started to move yet further S of K into the thin line of Hungarians and odd units... nice.

17th June Panzers roll - breakthrough and many Russians pocketed. Including the Bryansk Front in Kursk commanded by Konev my opponent has just told me

Anything that comes forward will be destroyed. We will see in the next turn...those ss kg have plenty of fuel and supplies as they had HQ build up plus the HQ has tons of tough SU and they all have a SU each.

To me thats an invitation to trap even more units. The rivers should help to defend against forces trying to relieve the next pocket.

Russian turn 1st July - they are pulling back. I wonder if they will leave any weak parts.

They do and we decide to exploit - 2SS PZC rocks through

and another larger problem could occur next turn.

Russians try and hold 8th July - I thought they may pull back. Orel would be nice to take as a final prize - if they weaken the original plan was then to drive on Moscow.

Axis blow - we still have a lot of strength - lets see what can be done before the SS retire - any summer 43 offensive must keep this in mind.

We must bag Orel before the SS vanish (2 turns I think) - so its time for some tough fighting and we are through.
