Steel Division Normany 1944.

Post by Alan Sharif »

Anyone got any experience of playing this game? It looks good, it sounds good, but I don't want to waste up to £50.00 on something that proves not to be.

It is good. I bought it while it was in beta. If you played the Wargame series and played R.U.S.E. it is a mix of both games. It is fun, but not a simulation, more of an RTS without "bases". Best played with other players and not against he AI for maximum enjoyment.

It looked like Ruse to me, and since the developer did all the "Wargame: ..." games, I figured that this was just another one along those lines. I never really looked into the game.

Watched the Video tutorials. On e issue I had is in one of scenarios you capture the enemy supply to resup your own units. 7.92mm doesn't fit in 30 cal rifles. Is this being a bit picky or Have I got it wrong?

If your right, it does sound rather daft.

I wouldn't give much for this game tho, Paradox doesn't make really good historical games. But they can however go over time to time, esp with mods to improve it.

That's not a problem if you also capture the rifles [;)].
I recall reading that the Russian mortars were designed to be slightly bigger than the German ones (82mm versus 81mm) so that the Russian mortars could use German mortar rounds but the Germans mortars couldn't use Russian ones (likewise with 150cm versus 152mm guns etc). I think (?) US mortars were 81mm so both sides could use each others mortars.

thanks for the post, but also don't do RTS that much now, with age and slower responses, i enjoy turn based games much more, so shame it went RTS, which caters for a given more arcade feel and approach, but does look good all the same[&o]

I will wait for the sale, since I am enjoying Tank Warfare Tunisia now to the max, I dont feel the itch to play any other RTS with much less realism.

I will chime in and say I refunded it after finding the terrain and models looking terrible, although my system is above recommended spec (i7, 3.6ghz, 16 ram), my GTX-745 card is rather weak. Of course, Combat Mission 2 series and Mius Front look great for me maxed out.

I really liked the build-your-own Kampfgruppe mechanic at the start though. I am thankful Steam has a refund policy so people can try it out on their systems first.
