What needs to be fixed list

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

What needs to be fixed list

Post by warshipbuilder »

Please post any issues you have with the game to this thread and the assorted things that need fixing. I don't mean the things you would like to see added to the game, I want your input as to what is currently broken and you feel needs to be looked at. Whether it be the turn-around bug or production problems or anything else. Let us know and we can begin to tackle those problems.

I'm currently playing the 1943 Campaign, Axis side. My game version is 1.02.076.

1. I still notice some heavy bomber groups on their return flight to fly back in the direction of their targets, then unescorted.
2. If I direct my night fighter groups to specific raids, some groups tend to split up in teams of 2 planes, turn to patrol mode and fly away to far away places. It's a hell of an effort to re-direct all theses small teams to their target raids and very often to no avail, because the same thing happens again and again every few game minutes, which is very annoying and time consuming. Don't know if it is a bug.
3. Some of my ground forces 189th, 244th Inf, 11th Panzer, 2nd SS Divisions have a disruption grade of 95%. They are in Southern France and haven't been bombed once. Don't know were the disruption comes from. Resistance? Would be an unbelievable effect on combat divisions... Time is May 1944.

1. would be the turn around bug, and that is a LONG standing issue.

2. Ok we can look at that.

Thanks for your input.

Maybe at a further stage but something must be done with BTR Ground war - there should be at least some logic... Why divisions "change colours" from grey to red and back without any bombing when outside breakthough periods or even standing in reserve behind the frontline. Why the defensive line is destined to get breached even when it has 80% grey units same way when 80% are red?
East front Soviet advance - there could be much more historical conformity. April-June 45 is a total disaster the game better stop before - with those isolated pockets with airfields full of oil (do they trade it with nearby allied airfield ground staff-?). Denmark, Kiel, Rostock falling first when huge parts of West Germany are still in German hands. There must be some equivalent to defence line in East Front like along the Oder... A rather narrow spearhead from the west cuts Germany in two parts leaving separate German units and industry sites within liberated territory just few miles from now-Allied airfields...

It's no bug but a bit irritating: the biggest Lake in the Alps between Switzerland, Germany and Austria (south of Friedrichshafen), the Bodensee, is missing entirely on the map.

Just cosmetic but irritating/ahistorical: Please rename the aircraft Go 229 to Ho 229
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)

Technically correct, yes but Sometimes it was also called the Gotha Go 229, because Gothaer Waggonfabrik manufactured the plane. should be an easy fix anyway.

The manufacturer prefix was used for companies developing an aircraft, not for companies just manufacturing an a/c. In latewar they even used designer prefixes (Ta for Kurt Tank instead of the company designation Fw for Focke-Wulf)

NJ - aircraft radar ineffectiveness. I had a rare night in Aug 44 when no ECMs escorted RAF bombers in a raid on Berlin.
Hundreds of JU-88G on intercept missions

Result - quite impressive but not a single attack based on FuG-220SN-2 detection - instead visual or Naxos/Flensburg which both must had been ineffective by Aug 44.
Also not one of the escorting Mosquitos intercepted a Ju-88G in flight...

I started the Focke Wulf mod 1944, as Axis. I'm in turn 6 and tried to intercept some big daylight raids to Germany. But nearly half of my Luftflotte Reich declines to fly! I tried repeatedly to put them on patrol or to intercept, but to no avail. I checked the cloud conditions and the fuel state of the airfields, but that's okay. Odd thing is, that from the same airfields some groups took off, but others persistently refuse to fly. I remember that the turn before one group refused to fly, but I did'nt care, but in turn 6 the amount is about 20 groups! Don't know if it is a bug of the mod only or a game bug. Quit the game and will start the "normal" 1944 campaign.

I tried to play the FW mod but I did not like the planes/weapons modifications. We know that the original database is not very good - like with quasi mass produced 109G-5AS when there is no 109-G6AS, MK108 firing at longer range but almost the same effect as the MK151, MK103 being less accurate than MK108 and so on...
FW mod changes were not perfect either.
With the bug you noted - it happens with night fighters more than with daylight ops. But when you move those "unwilling to fly groups" from one to another airfield (of course changing a/c model - not to use operational points) they seem to become more receptive. But I also found that even when they fail to take off - pilots still get +1 experience point once they were assigned - something you can do several times in a turn. So in the first weeks of 44 game before everyone connects with command/control your refusing groups can easily get some extra experience points even without flying a mission.
But again I had much less cases with daylight ops than with NJ - maybe 5-6 groups max.

I never ever had this problem - neither daylight nor night ops - when I played the 1943 campaign. Maybe it's a problem only with the 1944 campaign? I never looked at the experience gain of my pilots, but I will now - thanks for the advice. But that sounds like a bug, too, if they gain experience without flying...
To add some information to my problem: I transferred a lot of groups on turn 1 (changed type of plane and transferred them to other airfields using 0 admin points), no planes of these groups ready on turn 2, some ready on turn 3, all on turn 4. Heavy action every turn, oddity started turn 5 becoming massive turn 6. Maybe the mass transfer triggered the problem?

Another observation: I'm doing the 1944 campaign as Axis, turn 17 now. I noticed that in the replacement pool there are 50 Fw190/R8, but regardless of combat losses or swapping planes that doesn't change at all, still 50. Also in the production list there are 2 Ju88-G nightfighter assembly points, but no JuJumo213E in production, which are required to build the plane. Is this on purpose?

I think allied ECM doing that?

Maybe an invasion is coming, not really sure but I think I noticed it in past.

@warshipbuilder: can you take a look at the pilot replacement routine? I play(ed) a pbem GC, more than 350 turns, heavy losses of german pilot. One/two JG Gruppe (don't remember, JG 1./I, JG 2./II??) have a roster of 60/70 pilots while many others are understrenght. It's bad that I can't provide more detailed info, sorry.

Still lurking & waiting...

cohimbra, I read in some posts, that the mysterious interruption of ground forces happened before. Even if an invasion is imminent (which wasn't in Southern France, only in August 1944),there has to be some kind of combat activity in form of air attacks and/or ground combat to produce disruption. But these units are just doing a bit of training and otherwise are enjoying French wine and food...(wait, maybe that's the reason for the disruption, as a result of massive hangovers!) [:D]

Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day for the Bombing of the Reichis a great and unique game that I would very reluctantly do without.
It is a pity that nobody has been able to correct the issues so far. [:(]

1. If the German side wins, then the US national anthem is played. Oh man, this bug is so old and still not eliminated. [8|]

2. The performance
Especially now on modern systems, the performance is hard to bear.
Here you will find many contributions in the 'Tech Support' area.
How can it be, with my modern system, Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to bombard the Reich doesn't run smoothly? Why do the explosions show up as a slideshow?

I would be very glad if there was a Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombard the Reich Luftwaffe General Edition.

The anthem switch and the crash after replay bugs have been fixed and are being tested. The replay still shows some wonky graphics (but not as bad) but we are working on fixing that.

Is that a reliable statement that someone, somewhere, is working on a patch? [X(]
