How many players get Aces flying float fighters?

You should try Andy's latest. He has a bunch of these with Uber pilots. They kill B-17s at 36K ft [X(]

I have always used Rufes and the Rex's as anti 4E bomber killers. I had Rex's shoot down a B29.

Generally they have 4 uses:

1. trainers
2. dot base 0 runway ambushes
3. deep anti bomber defense
4. low cap on CS/BB hyrbrids/CA-CS/CA

The BB/CS conversion adds low CAP, and also creates the strongest BB AA platform in the game for Japan I believe.

Maybe, but have you seen the Rufes specs?

This from Wiki, that reliable source of information...

Cruise speed: 296 km/h (160 knots, 184 mph)
Range: 1,782 km (963 nmi, 1,107 mi)
Service ceiling: 10,000 m (32,800 ft)
Climb rate: 6 min 43 s to 5,000 m (16,400 ft)

I have also had Rufes shoot down B17...early in 42 they are great used in that role. But not at 36K!

Engagements don't last long as the bombers usually fly right by with lots of unable to catch messages.

September 7 1943

A quiet day. I did manage to sink another Dutch sub to depth charges...at least according to intelligence. I am working hard on sinking them.

My poor mans sweep over Katha finds no lrCAP. Very hard to attrit the Allied air force when they don't come out to play. Umboi cap trap a bust too.

I spotted F5A at both Prome and Kavieng...both bases have really good AA units present.

Still, he had to be flying those Lightnings low!

Got my first 61-d Tony squadron upgraded today. Only 12 planes in it for now, but I wanted to get it up and switched over from the Oscar III's they were flying.

Trying my usual tricks again for tomorrow...

Large convoy left Anchorage with half a dozen units. They will fortify along the Aleutians.

Sent a large artillery unit to Wake. Midway is getting more CD guns, and will drop a ton of mines there in a little bit.

Sept 8, 1943

A massive Japanese twin engine bombing raid on the LRP troops and their Light AA escorts south of Katha generates quite a few LCU VP, a solid bombardment of the trapped Yanks and Aussies at Katha the rest -- 13 LCU VP earned for the day.

The Allies sweep and bomb heavily Katha...but they generate only 1 LCU VP and lose two fighters and 1 beast in the process.

Other than that a quiet day.

A minor LRCAP trap over Katha nets a positive exchange.[:)]

So, it would have been a decent day, but I blundered and let two 28 VP tankers out of Miri/Brunei. Under escorted and going to Cam Ranh Bay, instead of Manila, both were sunk fully loaded by Yank subs. Ouch.[X(]

Still cleaning up the Chinese. To the north there are two stubborn HQ units in the mountains too. Plus 17 units to the south.

Allies sweep Katha with Corsairs...and then bomb with 4E.

None of my traps/attacks fly.

I think Allies got tipped that the KB is at Sorong.

Should I reveal them in a mass ASW attack?

Bombing in heavy rain, moving troops in open at 10K feet.

Some days are simply very disappointing. Perhaps the recon pilots got socked in...

Allies have supply every day, at Katha I have supply once every four days and only a fraction of what is needed. Move the troops to an adjacent non-base hex and the supply flows fully restoring them.

This is like the fourth day of bombing them with the cream of Japan's Army bombers, skill 80+, exp 70+ and I still lose 2-3 bombers a strike.

The 33rd Division left Katha yesterday...it was being bombed daily.

So, normally some bombers would follow that division, so I set up a LRCAP of 150 Nicks over them. Wouldn't you know it, the Allies stand down their bombers.

Pity.

I need to fine tune my naval traps in the Milne Bay area now to avoid cap traps.
