SM-3 intercepting endo-atmospheric target?

Post by Vici Supreme »

Attached are save files which showcase SM-3 missiles being able to intercept ballistic targets on terminal phase within the atmosphere. The SM-3 DB entry however states a minimum target altitude of 100 km ASL? Load the save file, press play and see what happens. ASBMs are already on their way towards the CSG. USS Higgins should open up once missiles are detected.

[Edit: re-attached the zip file. Should work now.]

The attachment didn't attach. Question; did the SM-3 launch when the ballistic target was below 100 km or was the interception made below 100 km?

My bad! Yes on both. The first salvo did launch when the targets where still above 100 km but the intercept and subsequent launch of a second volley both happened below 100 km.

Up until the second launch, I'd say things worked.

I'm almost sure that an intercept within the atmosphere is not possible, simply because of the SM-3's warhead. I'll wait for the Devs to take a look.

Slightly different problem there (it was an aerodynamic target, and the DLZ calcs are different for aero and ballistic targets), but we'll definitely take a look. Thanks.
