I'll seize all seas (tomamars-J VS Aurorus-A)

Post by tomamars »

It’s time to do my first AAR so it probably won’t be too professional as some of the others here on forum. For now I’ll just post some interesting results and my thoughts on strategy and later I might expand it with little more content.
My honorable opponent is Mr.Aurorus, seasoned IJ player who wanted to try going as Allies this time. I’m relative noob compared to some other players, did Japan several times against AI and once against human opponent in Guadalcanal scenario, never in Grand Campaign.
Our game will be as following:
Scen001
1 day turn
Historical first turn
PDU off

House rules:
No 4e naval under 10.000
No using CVs to resize naval air units to very large sizes
No fragmenting paratroopers to seize dot bases
Using amphibious TFs to actually invade, not as bombardment TFs

My goal is to play as historical Japan without making mistakes historical Japan made. We’ll see how that goes...

OK, here we go:

I-16 launches midget submarine Ha-22 to attack Pearl Harbor
SSX Ha-22 gets tangled in nets and is lost attempting to penetrate harbor at Pearl Harbor
I-18 launches midget submarine Ha-24 to attack Pearl Harbor
SSX Ha-24 runs aground and is lost attempting to penetrate harbor at Pearl Harbor
I-20 launches midget submarine Ha-14 to attack Pearl Harbor
SSX Ha-14 unable to penetrate harbor at Pearl Harbor and is abandoned
I-22 launches midget submarine Ha-18 to attack Pearl Harbor
SSX Ha-18 hits a mine and is destroyed at Pearl Harbor
I-24 launches midget submarine Ha-19 to attack Pearl Harbor
SSX Ha-19 hits obstruction and is lost attempting to penetrate harbor at Pearl Harbor

Nothing as usual...

Problem is NOT ONE of those BBs actually got sunk according to tracker or VPs. We'll see what happens in next several days due to fire or faulty damage control...

That's basically day one. PH was total success, RN attack not so much. Worked on turn 2 for 2 days and just sent it to Aurorus. Now we'll see what will he do in response to this blatant act of Japanese aggression. What ever happens I think this is going to be a long and bloody war with only one outcome: Pacific will become Japanese lake. And Indian ocean will be renamed to Great Asia co prosperity sea.

I would suspect FOG on your PH BDA as it reports 62 torpedo hits with only 53 dropped. That is some impressive shooting if true 122% hit ratio.

It's actually 62 / 70 and we are currently having a dispute over it in a War room. Maybe it's FOW, maybe it isn't but this is not the first time I got those results from those same settings (dec.7 surprise, historical first turn, scen 1). I don't know how often people use those but I'd appreciate if ones that do could compare their results to those we got here. Maybe it's problem with these settings and that they favor Japanese to much, I don't know...

That has to be one of the more brutal Pearl strikes that I have seen (allowing for FoW) What were your strike settings?

It was an auto-strike generated by game settings, Dec.7 supprise ON, Historical first turn ON, scen 1. Those settings often generate those results and even worse. Some guy even had ALL BBs in PH sunk on turn 1 using those settings. Feel free to try them on your next game.

Somehow I have a feeling that our valiant men have those decadent Americans and British so demoralized and scared by our successful attack, that they are already considering unconditional surrender on Dec.8.

Japan could sink everything at Pearl, and I do mean everything, and by 1945 the Allies will still be bombing the HI.

True for a Scenario 1 game.

Well, since I haven't heard from my opponent in three days except through "Cheating and Historical Turn 1" thread, which speaks volumes on itself, I'm most likely going to call this one done for. I regret it came to this because I really looked forward to this game, but what can you do? I'll probably advertise new game tonight if I don't hear from my opponent before that and then go again into 15 hours of some gruesome clicking in preparation of turn 1. Hopefully I won't have as much success in PH strike again so my future game might last longer than Dec.9-th for a change...

Yeah, I hate that too and I'm this close to drop whole PBEM idea out of window. I'd give it another try though, maybe this time I will go till 6_1946... [:)]

I hope he doesn't quit on you, he will have less to repair if you sank that many outright.
