CHINA

Here's a map of China. Lots of movement to get the main forces back to good territory, and the IJA are following along some paths. It looks like they're very committed to the Ankang paradrop, but this will shortly be culled. There are two big Corps on the road as well digging into a 40k SL hex, totalling ~650AV. They should hold for a while, long enough to tackle the para-incursion.

It looks like another Army is moving down the slow yellow road toward Sian. This is such a popular route, but it takes a long time and gives a chance for the defences of Sian to be improved.

I'm concerned I don't have enough troops in the SE, and some of the Changsha troops may need to move here if the Japanese come this way. I have to see how much he's bringing to Changsha before moving too many out.

Dec 22-23, 1941

NO PAC: Got to the DDs up here, likely sinking one and severely damaging another. Nice to hit Japanese DDs. The more I get now the harder it is for Japan later. Sara will move West in a bold path to see what else she can find, if indeed Japanese interests are moving this direction, and to try an cut off retreats for the other survivors.

PACIFIC: Some part of the KB is up by Wake, but it seems to not be all of it. I've got Cats at Canton and Nauru plus about 40 USN fleet boats searching for the rest. Got a lot of shipping in the So Pac area, so I need some location warning before those ships proceed.

DEI: A large invasion TF shows up off of Balikpapan, but MTBs delay the landing it seems. That's good, as two Brit cruisers from Soerabaja were just ready for action, the only surface forces in the DEI.

They come back in on the 23rd with more force and several ships hit mines, including CA Haguro. Nice! [:)]

This is a day when the quick Japanese unloading goes against them. The main TF backs out only to find the Dragon and Danae plus two DDs. They sink the entire TF!! Nice shooting. There looks to be massive surface forces in the Balikpapan hex plus a CV TF a few offshore, but nothing hits the RN forces yet. They're vulnerable with low ammo and only one hex away for tomorrow but I'll set them to run and see what happens.

Nice counterattacks! Those DDs were in a strange location - raids or an advance scouting party for amphibs heading to Dutch Harbour from the north? Your move west should tell, although I suspect there will be at least a CVL covering amphibs.

Too bad Danae and partner could not find Haguro while they had torpedoes ... but maybe your subs can!

It looks like half the IJN in Balikpapan port, so it's best the Danae and Dragon get out now. He still has a problem of getting those injured ships out of port and to a shipyard. Hong Kong is closest, but that's a lot of water between, and a lot of subs in it.

Wake's defiance ends with help from part of the KB. I like that he's split it already. This looks like two CVs, and probably not the big ones.

I'm confused by why he's sending xAKs into your CVs in the north when KB is elsewhere.

Dec 24, 1941

SUBS: The rusty old Dutch boats come through around Balikpapan. The two CAs look to be still in the port there, since nothing has come out and search shows a mass of surface TFs in the hexes around it. Subs will converge further to try for a finishing shot.

DEI: Balikpapan falls. Doesn't look like there is an Air HQ here for now anyway, which is good.

Danae and Pillsbury are sunk by IJN CAs after yesterday's surprise strike, but Dragon gets away with a fish in her belly and DD Express escorting to Soerabaja. I'll immediately send her off to Perth and probably farther for some patching. At 35 float damage she'll be fine if no I-boats block the path.

PACIFIC: As Wake falls the KB situation becomes more clear. One section of what looks like two CVs near Wake is split off as the others appear in So Pac. USN fleet boats will converge, and a surprise is waiting around Horn Island if he chooses to dare to run the Torres Straits. S-boats, a few Dutch boats, the trailing USN boats and some hidden surface forces will attempt a surprise attack. Minelayers are already getting into position to infest both transit hexes. Night search will be extensive to draw our forces in. I don't think he'll be so bold, but I'll prepare for it nonetheless.

No fighters appear for another 20 turns or so in OZ, so some of the released PI fighter will begin to transit to Darwin and onward to Eastern OZ industrial centres. I've got some Hurri IB heading over from Cape Town and a few groups from the West Coast in transit, but I have to be careful there. Don't want to roam to close to the KB now. Escorts are in short supply, and it'll be a few weeks before the fighters at PH can move out to So Pac as well. Lean times.

CHINA: The Ankang noose is tightening. Other forces are digging. One small Army in the North gets roughed up trying to combine with another Corps. I'll simply leave these to be hit every few turns, pushed back slowly, and hopefully delay advances to Lanchow.

SINGERS: I'm sending about 750AV of the "good" units from Singers to try and shepherd some smaller forces back into the city. A strong looking Japanese force is moving from Mersing, and I hope we don't get caught by a bigger than expected Army here. It'll be a tight movement battle, but he doesn't likely have good recon either to see what we have until he bombards.

SUBS: No presents for the Allies on Christmas Day.

The KB shifts twoard Truk, and subs follow

DEI: A strong cruiser force strikes Batavia, putting some hurt on the fields and wrecking about 10 planes on the ground. Three IJN DDs hit mines in the process, and look to be in danger. if they go under that is a win for the good guys!

All of the IJN at Batavia seem to get together in one big TF. Lets me know what he's got here, which is impressive. Two Kongo BBs, 11 CAs and a gaggle of DDs. Several more ASW TFs of DDs are running around here.

The USN CVs near the area. They'll approach cautiously to try an ambush soon. Somewhere. [:)]

PACIFIC: A lot of small transports are scurrying to finish unloading supply and fuel at Port Moresby. I've sent troops fro mDarwin there as well, just a battalion, but enough to hold for a bit.

CHINA: Chinese forces near Ankang. There are now elements of two units there. So the fields aren't completely closed. I'll keep bombing.

NO PAC: Another xAK from the intercepted TF is sunk with troops on board. Sara will now move back to support a flash invasion of Adak. I'm using and underprepped regiment, so fingers crossed.

Dec 26, 1941

SUBS: The I-26 sinks xAP President Johnson on the way out of SD. A few troops lost but most of the Marine tank unit saved on the two xAKs also present and still steaming South.

DEI: Big air battles over the port and industry of Balikpapan leave the Japanese with more damaged oil fields to repair and one bomb hit on CA Kumano, plus a few A6M and Nells lost on the ground and in the air. The zeros are performing well, but this base has one entire ace group and 1/3 of another. They are wearing down, which is good. Buffs and P-40s are fighting about evenly here, and the B-17E is a lot of firepower to handle for the zeros.

CVs hide in the islands between Timor and Java. No sightings. I wanted to run in and strike at Balikpapan but the Nettie situation has me a bit concerned there. If I can get close enough in a few turns I;d like to punch through for a bombardment of the base by surface ships with the CVs in support. This will be tough to engineer, but it's out on a limb, and unless the entire IJN stays here, will be vulnerable. Force Z and 4 USN cruiser TFs plus the combined Dutch/RN surface fleet are moving in to support.

I should have 4 modern and 2 old USN CLs, 8 USN CAs, Force Z and 3 Dutch/RN CA/CL to throw into the mix in addition to the two CVs with each TF having more than adequate DDs. I need to reach Soerabaja to replenish first though. This will be a good spot for a dual threat to Palembang and to Balikpapan. If possible I'd like to steam the CVs into the South China Sea to really cause him some concern!

PACIFIC: The KB shifts to move in toward Kaveign. I wonder if there is a TF on the way to invade Rabaul of land more at Kaveign? Subs are swarming! [8D]

CHINA: The Japanese win a decisive victory in the North, and these Chinese troops will be left to wither and delay the Japanese as much as possible here. I would like to lose some so as not to have to feed so many, and these can't make it in time to support any central bases anyway.

As you can see here there is a lot of work being done just out of sight of the KB here. I'll make sure to get these TFs moving South ASAP. Nearly all USN fleet subs are within 20 hexes of the KB right now, just off screen. S-boats gather near Horn Island. So the sub vice is narrowing.

Do you have any indications that Soerabaja is being reconned by Ms. Mavis? Op Report sightings?
Just wondering if your forces can get away with sneaking in there for fuel.

BTW, love the way you are setting up to interrupt his plans! Great theatre! [:)]
