How about some recent screen shots and game play?

Post by kool_kat »

Gents: [8D]

While the player community waits for the official release of Armored Brigade, it would be nice to have some recent (2017) screen shots and game play videos - e.g. Introduction to the game system, play mechanics, etc.

Also, any news on game development schedule and anticipated release dates would be much appreciated! [:)]

How about it Juha, Sam, Dmitrity, and Nikola? [&:]

The game visuals are under heavy reconstruction, so it's not a good idea to show in-game footage at this point.

Understood. [:)]

So, until recent screen shots and game play videos are released, I found the following videos on YouTube:

Armored Brigade Gameplay/AAR (5 Parts)- Posted Feb 10, 2016.

Narrator explains the key differences of this build (02/07/2016) compared to the free version game. He also reviews basic defense tactics, line of sight, use of recon / spotters, plotting and execution of artillery fire missions, vehicle and leg infantry movement, etc. Footage of both attack helicopters and bombers shown. Camera can zoom to individual soldiers (Witnessed two soldiers KIA from an artillery barrage). MBT and BMP turrets traverse and track to face enemy fronts while vehicles move!) Graphics in this build have improved significantly from the the free version game!

Enjoy! [8D]

Whoa! I can see that the graphics department has certainly improved from the video days. And it's only getting better from what it currently is.

I was a big fan of Steel Panthers, especially the SPMBT version. I watched the Armored Brigade video. I have never played the free version. The game looks good; sort of like a cross between the Steel Panthers series and the Close Combat series.

I do have some suggestions. The vehicle graphics need to be bigger. I could barely see my, or the enemy vehicles. I could see the Hind helicopters fine, so maybe vehicle graphics should be closer to their size. Also, the infantry symbols should be squads of soldiers like in Steel Panthers not the NATO symbol. It was hard to tell what weapons the Bradleys were firing. I could tell when they fired the 25mm chain gun at the Hinds, but could, or did not see, ITOW's being fired.

I like the terrain graphics and the line of sight graphics. Except for the Hinds, the units should be larger and colored in something other than grey. I really liked the SPMBT colors.

Ok, I watched some of parts 2 and 3. My only other comment is that the hit explosions should be more dramatic when a vehicle is destroyed and should continue to burn. I really liked the graphics of the artillery strike on the enemy troops. Why so my troops not look like little soldiers, like the enemy troops?

So far I am very impressed with the game mechanics and the AI. I look forward to the game's release with more colors on the units and a bit bigger vehicle graphics. Even the weapons in the air should be some color other than grey, maybe red or orange.

I watched the rest of the 5 part video. The game appears to be a ground combat version of Command, my favorite war game. I definitely will purchase this game when released. I love the artillery and air strike graphics. I hope the unit graphics are a bit bigger with more colors.

The game has several unit size options. The default option is a realistic 1:1 scale that matches with terrain, and so the units disappear when you zoom out. The other options make the units look bigger when zooming out. I think in the videos the largest option is selected. It should be feasible to add another scale option to make them even bigger.

The Hind is big, because it's big in real life. Perhaps aircraft up-scaling should be moderated.

The missiles are indeed a bit hard to see.

There are many options for customizing the game visuals. In the video, the target lines from the firing unit to the target were turned off. So were the NATO icons. In that old build, when infantry entered a building the unit turned into a NATO icon, even if the icons were turned off. That's different now. Instead, the building roof becomes transparent, and you can see the building interior and other "flavor" objects, and the individual soldiers remain visible all the time.

I need to hear what the artists have to say, but I think the unit colors are based on real camouflage pattern colors.

A vehicle can be destroyed in many ways: Without visible critical damage or even smoke, or with the turret blown off, burning for a good while with secondary explosions (than can cause more fire and blow off the turret, if it hasn't already), blocking all movement until it has stopped burning. Isn't that dramatic enough?

I think you see infantry NATO icons because they're inside buildings, like I explained above.
Even the weapons in the air should be some color other than grey, maybe red or orange.

Tracer graphics have been improved from what they were in the video build.

Veitikka, I believe that Armored Brigade potentially could be to ground combat what CMANO is to air-sea combat. The units and missiles all looked grey to me. Perhaps some green or brown would make then stand out. I really liked some of the Steel Panthers color mods. However, increasing the size of the units would greatly help. I intend to purchase the game when released.

Hi JPFisher55,

First of all, thank you for the feedback, we appreciate it very much. It is always useful to hear comments from player's perspective.

However, could you elaborate more on the part with grey sprites? Is it maybe possible you saw "raw" grey sprites as seen on some screenshots on Facebook page or old forum? Because all units in the game have historical camouflage applied. I take particular care to make them accurate as possible, year by year. For example, on American tanks, you can spot anything from plain olive green to various multi-tone camouflage schemes from common MERDC to rare Dual-Tex. In appropriate periods, of course.

Best regards,

Nikolas, I watched all 5 parts of the video from the above post in this thread. In general, I am very impressed with the game
mechanics, especially the AI. Also, the terrain graphics were good.

However, the unit graphics were too small to see unless the video zoomed in on them. Considering it's a real time game like CMANO,
it would be very difficult for a player to watch the scenario and know what is happening to either make adjustments or zoom into interesting combat.

IMO, the infantry, vehicle and weapons graphics need to be sufficiently visible so the player can watch the whole battle and generally know what is
happening on the whole map. I agree that the icons and weapons graphics will be too big for the terrain, but the CMANO icons and missile graphics are and that is a great game. IMO, armored brigade
might be the CMANO of ground combat. A little color might help too. It may be that the icons were so small that they looked grey.

I realize that the Steel Panthers graphics are too big for the terrain (still that series was a good for its time). Even the Close Combat graphics might be too big, but they are closer to what is needed
to have a fun game to play.

I'm very excited about what I have seen and read so far. This game has a lot of potential, seems like the developers have implemented the best features from some of the best all time military sim/games into one ultimate military sim/game. Looking forward to seeing more, this game will be a definite purchase for me, and I am already confident that it will find a huge fan base.
