Why can't cities and towns be fortified by engineers?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Why can't cities and towns be fortified by engineers?

Why can't cities and towns be fortified by engineers? They were during the war. Also, same question regarding resource hexes.

They're kind of assumed to be fortified already - they have much higher entrenchment values than non-resource hexes, and what the pioneer unit does is increase the entrenchment value.

That's not right. Engineers can fortify cities and towns and oil fields and mines and factory complexes and raise their entrenchment levels significantly in real life. Seen it.

I really don't like the way the game handles fortifications. It's not reality-based, but just gamey. It needs work.

yeah, I largely agree. Whatever it is these mythical Corps-size engineer units are doing in the countryside, they could be doing in the resources as well.

From memory this is more of a game play design decision as we certainly could have Engineers fortify on resources, for example this is an option for the WWI variant of this game engine where they can build trenches, however the game could potentially start to feel more like WWI and we'd then have to consider the additional WWI seige rules and so on.

For some already, the feeling is that in certain circumstances some resources are hard enough to capture as it is (take too long) and by adding this ability in you are likely to move away even further from "blitzkrieg".

Again, not saying the current design is necessarily perfect, but it is always a give and take with each decision.

This brings up an area I am interested in. certain hexes and ports on the board should have intrinsic values for everything from
mines, naval bases, and assorted patrol's that extend 2 hexes or more in some cases, around where they are on board.
Gib, Sev, Eng Cha, kinda like a ZoC that would extend outwards from the hex they occupy.
So many examples of confined waters and key hexes in game.. !!

again if we are to add this it could be lowered to a reasonable level and removed upon bambardment, no fixed fort lasts past the first 16mm shell. ha
