Creeping

Post by Chris21wen »

Is it possible to creep up or at least reduce the chance of a unit being spotted? Seems that anytime you move a unit so that it can see a hex it automatically get fired on (usually dead).

Also is there a secret to using Jeep type vehicles? There always get hit by anything firing at them no matter what range.

Good question! There's a few factors in play here.

First is the terrain concealment factor. At the moment these need to be read from the Manual, but with the next UPDATE there will be a hot key that reveals the concealment levels of each hex.

Second, there's the unit itself, and its defined Concealment modifier. Simply put, larget the vehicle higher the chance its spotted, and vice versa.

Third, there are a few units that have a "Sneaker Unit" flag on them, like certain foot recce platoons, maybe snipers too. I don't have a list of those handily available, but let me see if I can dig a few up.

Finally, there's the classic truth that better be already where you want to be when enemy arrives. But that's another story.

These first off my mind. Anyone else with their favorite tactics?

Study the elevation contours, and the LOS-blocking terrains. Maneuver your forces accordingly.

Also toggle ON the Elevation display (hot key '.' [period]), and toggle ON/OFF the Visibility highlight (hot key 'v') often. If you can't see them, usually they can't see you.

That's OK except I think you missed the point. If you want to see a hex for spotting purposes then hiding behind elevation etc make it impossible.

You use elevation etc. to avoid being seen and opfired at up until you reach your intended spotting location. At which point you hope that the various concealment factors will keep you hidden.
