AWNT blogs game reviews for March

Post by sullafelix »

We have decided to do a post of our game and book reviews for every month. I know it is not March yet, but it is close enough.

Especially since I was outside yesterday in a tee shirt.

This is a preview of the upcoming Wargame design Studio's 'Panzer battles demo'.

Here's another one, my review of Battle Academy 2 and the Kursk Expansion.

Review

Some of the other games I'm expecting to do this month:
Afghanistan '11 (Review and probably also an AAR kind of thing)
Warhammer 40k: Space Wolves (Very early preview)
Battle Brothers (Review if it releases, they are very close but still updating constantly)

Mike has put a game up for review it is 'Legend: Winds of War 1934-1940'

Don't let the title fool you it is a board game simulation about racing during those years.

I started an AAR as a preview for Afghanistan '11. Here is Part 1

What looks like a simple mission turns into a bit of a mess. Sound familiar?

Interesting game, thank you for reviewing it as I enjoy the subject. I didn't see the bottom line for you though - did you enjoy playing it and how would you compare it to other well known Revolutionary War board games?'

Regards,

- Erik

Sorry about the delay, but I have been digging out.[:D]

To be honest, with Revolutionary War games I have only played tactical games. This was the first strategic Revolutionary War boardgame I have played.

So I don't really have anything to compare it with. I like playing Ageod's Wars in America II.

With the yearly turns and some of the abstractions it wasn't really my cup of tea. I am a more a historical gamer than probably most gamers.I like them to be as close to simulations as they can, within reason.

If you like strategic over views and don't mind some abstractions it is a fine game.

It was originally a S&T game, so like most of them it had to conform to a certain complexity and size.

I would like to see what the designer could do using a larger hex map, and more counters.
