Unit Insignia - Your help needed

Post by RedLancer »

You will have noticed that Unit Insignia have been included in the Unit Detail Screen for Counters that appear on the Map (i.e. Combat and Multi Role Units but not Support Units). (Air Group Insignia is not yet active but something we are looking at.)

Unfortunately I was unable to find insignia for every unit in the game. If you spot a unit without insignia art and you know what it was then please post here and I'll add them to the game.

In some cases you may disagree with the insignia used: for the Italian units I used collar facings and the HQ insignia are based on italian map symbols. I have also deliberately removed swastikas from some of the german insignia.

If you know better then please do post here too. Ideally I need a picture of good quality (larger than 100x100 pixels) in any format. I won't be offended and we can improve this game together.

Thanks in anticipation.

In addition to Insignia, many units had nicknames, 43rd "Wessex" Infantry Division, 36th "Texas" Infantry, 10th "Frundsberg" SS Panzer Div etc.

More chrome to add to the game.

Is it possible to add any missing pictures/insignia etc ourselves whilst we wait for the 'official' updates.

Hello

Yes this is possible. You can add pictures and insignia yourself. It is can ad or replace to your own likings.

You have to look at the editor and the art folder to figure out which files name belongs to a certain insigna.

Section 7 of the Editor Manual has the detail you may need.

Thx for that Red Lancer, one question, can you explain what 'To appear the
file must have an embedded alpha mask' is exactly.

Not sure how graphics savvy you are - my assumption was that if someone were modding graphics then they'd know. I apologise if this isn't the case for you.

An alpha mask screens an area of a picture so that only the area corresponding to the mask area appears. When you create the picture you need to select it and embed the selection to alpha as unmasked pictures won't appear - not sure what software you are using so can't help much more on exactly how you might do so.

If you have insignia I've missed I'd love to know - if you need me to embed a mask then PM me and I'll do it for you. The more modders the better.

The insignia of the Panzer Division Hermann Goering can be found on Wikipedia. Not sure if you are allowed to use that:

Already in train - the graphic file is in your directory but incorrectly spelled so won't appear - if you rename it from Hermann Goring Panzer Div to Hermann Goering Panzer Div it will appear.

If you go to this website, you can find a lot of useful information including OOB's and divisional insignia, unfortunately everything is in German. You will have to ask permission to use divisional insignia. I just photocopied everything with a scanner. http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/

Hey!

I found some german unit insignias glancing through the editor I was not able to find ingame. I'm no expert so I apologize in advance if anyone of them are wrong (or if they are already added somewhere). Cheers!
