Japan and Russia?

Post by Majorball68 »

How do Japan and Russia make peace if they are at war with each other?

Is this coded into the game?

Have a bit more patience with newbies. Of course some of them act dumb -- they're often students, for heaven's sake. - Terry Pratchett

Thanks, so any Peace that happens more or less has to be mutually agreed.

You can duplicate most of the effects of peace by hand. One problem is that if going to peace puts one of the countries totally at peace, so that it is not at war with anyone, then, since MWiF thinks that it is at war, its reserves and militia stay one the map. You can, of course move them to be where they should be when war is declared, if you have enough time.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

There is little point to having them go to Peace in a 2 player game.

Sure there is. If Japan takes Vlad and has 4 and 5 moving units around while Russia has not much left in the Far East and is struggling to hang in against an all-out Barb, why lose even more resources to the Japanese?

But then why would the Japanese make Peace? Again, only in a 2 player game. One side is always in a worse spot than the other somewhere on the glibal map - why help your opponent when you have the advantage? Either the Axis or the Allies win in a 2 player game, not Japan or Russia.

Because of the compulsory peace optional rule, which is one I usually play with over the board.

Thank you. That's indeed what I thought we were talking about, hence the reference to Vlad.

Yes, I play with that as well, pretty much standard. But without it, the side that is 'winning' in Asia has no incentive to let the other side off the hook, when there are only two players.

Russo-JP Peace was an option put into the game (and added to again in 2008 to reduce some gaminess) as an antidote to the "Axis Gangbang Russia in 41" strategy.
