Letters.

Post by 1275psi »

Mom,
When I emerged from the radio room, stood at the back of the bridge, staring at the back of that fat
barsted, I admit I hesitated.
My heart was beating a thousand beats, and, gee, I think I might even have been trembling a little.
But you would be proud of me Mum, I think nobody can say I was anything but calm when I called across Chesters
Bridge
"Flash message sir!'
And that fat barsted, I will never forget the colour draining from his face.
"Read it signals""
So I did. Nice and loud, because this meant something Mother. Means something more than we
probably will ever know.
But oddly enough, despite everything it means, I'm proud to have read it, to be first aboard
to know it.

When Peter came onto the bridge I had just begun the morning coffee. There's something, I am sure
we all know, about that first coffee.
But really, can you compare your first coffee of the day to mine, sipped so carefully here on
Chesters bridge, the mighty pacific rolling endlessly away to the invisible horizon?

About me, the endless blue, and upon it, the dark grey, deep blue of our task force, steaming
West, steaming over our waters, the united States at sea, our nation at sea, free, goddam free to go where
ever she chooses to go.
How many mornings at sea now? How many bridges?
How many cups of coffee.?
20 years worth, from cadet days to now, XO of nine and a half thousand tons of mighty American Muscle
So many years.
So many mornings.
And every cup of coffee so sweet, so satisfying, no matter what the seas threw at you.

And then Young Peter hustles in, .......

"Pearl Harbour?????.........attacked?

And that mouthful, suddenly so bitter.

The Japs.
Those bloody Japs
And anger fills me.
We'll murder the little.............

Absolutely stock scene 1 against the Penguin

he can move land units no PP paid
No ship withdrawals
That's about it

Really looking forward to this game

Oh, the Penguin is very welcome here this time.

"Cross, get up!, get up!, get up!"
Ensign Cross struggles to get his eyes open.
Last night in Chesters hanger had been a long one, 5 card stud.
Lenny Cross is usually good at cards, but last night had been a disaster.........
"Go away........I don't want to know about it!"
'Jesus! Lenny, get up!, we are at war!"
"What the?"
Lenny is instantly awake, confronted by his fellow pilots crowded at the cabins door
'War"?
War???, what in the hell........
LT Dwights face, dark with anger, scowls......"Ít's no Joke....the party is over young man,
Japs have bombed pearl harbour, we are all going aloft, anti sub patrol, ASAP".......

The words don't register
Not really
war?
War?
No, surely not?

But the body is already in automatic, mae west, flight suit, clipboard, pistol..........

No ship withdrawals

Is that an option? Is that new?

Standard option with any game for the allies. You choose ship withdrawal on or off.

Really, I wasn't aware you could choose no withdrawal for ships only.

I have always been under the impression the toggle was across the board, ships, air squadrons and LCUs.

You are right Hans - it is "No UNIT withdrawals", and it affects both sides (although I don't know why the Japanese have to withdraw any units).
But the biggest losses of political points seem to be from problems withdrawing ships, so most players focus on the ship withdrawal dates rather than the air and land units.

Just a quick view from the South Pole........the above is indeed correct......I have no Idea what the long term implications are......Obviously the RN will have a much bigger role to play......on the plus side I get to keep the Thai Army.....which is a bonus?

It also means that the PI air force doesn't withdraw, nor do all of the headquarters squadrons.

I don't know the extent of it, but Japan does withdraw a bunch of air and land units.
