Matrix Game Sale Recommendation?

Post by John 3rd »

Hello All.

My eldest (almost 13) and I want to buy a couple of games on the Matrix sale site presently. Need recommendations from the gallery.

I LOVE Civil War stuff. Have all the Battleground Series and would love something fresh to play.

WWII is, of course, excellent. Is there any form of turn-based European Games that are playable and fun?

What do you recommend and why?

THANKS!

It's not Matrix, but Sid Meier's Antietam/Gettysburg are fun. Real time, though.

Thanks Anachro. WE have it.

Should add that we both love any of the space strategy games as well.

We need to stay within the Matrix sales list.

Well, in that case, the only one of the sci-fi games I'd play would be Distant Worlds. Pretty deep and detailed (really makes you feel like you are running a galactice empire), but with a decent enough UI that it doesn't become an overbearing hassle (Aurora I'm looking at you). It might be a little too much for your son, however.

EDIT

Make sure to get Distant World: Universe. Not Distant Worlds.

Might want to look at the Scourge of War series...Civil War and Napoleonic eras...

I've seen Distant Worlds and John has expressed interest with that one.

What is Scourge of War like?

John Tiller's Campaign Series is an excellent value at $9.99. Includes a Battle generator and editor. Steel Panthers: World at War - Generals Edition is also good, but Overpriced. I just bought the Campaign series and I am loving it.

John, Distant Worlds Universe is what I call, a strategic 4x space game. I recommend it....GP

I like Civil War by Ageod (a Matrix subsidiary). It captures the strategic feel of that conflict, at least to me.

CWII from Aegeod is a lot of fun. DW is a 4x, and one of the better ones out there.

Chiming in here, but are there any good Napoleonic War games? I kind of like the 'short fellow.' [:D]

BA Space Program Manager is better than it sounds and looks. Imho it's better than old BARIS game, but ymmv.

And a good history lesson too, with Buzz-opedia.

Ordered the download and box of Distant Worlds: Universe and Tiller's Campaign Series. Should take care of the near-teenager and I...
