What have you used SF for?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

What have you used SF for?

Post by fatgreta1066 »

I used the SF for the event to attack Narvik early in the war, since then I haven't pulled the trigger on committing them to anything. Anyone find any good uses for them?

That's a good question, actually. I am also looking for more "special" tasks for them, but in fact use them like a normal corps mostly.

SF are basically naval infantry. The capacity to embark from anywhere is nice when you use them as a decoy during a landing. For Overlord I send SF in the Netherlands, it distracts the ennemy. They also damage moral a lot, can be useful against a very cheerful unit, especially when planes arent available due to weather.

I think the name "Special Forces" could be changed, it makes me think of a unit that could retain minimum supply (like partisan)in ennemy territory. But yeah usually they are part of the frontline.

Their ability to do amphib from anywhere is good for operations which inevitably are going to fail. [:D]

As the Allies I used the Anglo-French and later just English units to waltz around Norway which the AI can't be bothered to defend. Also good for Rhodes, Crete. Once I established command of the Med I also was dropping them behind the Axis lines in Libya causing havoc. For the Germans I used them out of Narvik as the spearhead to seize Murmansk.

I use Special Forces as Combat Engineers.

Even at Infantry Level 0, they do Demoralization 20% and De-entrenchment -1 per attack.

Very useful when attacking Soviet units in cities

Use them as Dgold said. They are great doing that. A medium bomber, an artillery strike, a tac bomber, and a SF attack means even the toughest city or fortress hex is ready to fall.

SF are kind of the go to "urban warfare specialists" for reasons stated in above posts. Combined their attacks with artillery on entrenched units in cities so the regular units have an easier time capturing.
