Falklands Islands war scenario?

Post by larryfulkerson »

Hey you guys. Anybody know of a scenario that deals with the British v. Argentine war in the Falklands islands? That sounds
like it might be exciting, maybe somewhat shorter to play than FITE2.

Falklands '82 on the ZX spectrum was about the only game that's done it well atm so far, no idea if any other game engine done it yet, played this and still have it.

not seen or had this one, but wouldn't mind it in my collection

I seem to remember playing a paper map with cardboard units and the scenario dealt
with the Falklands I think. I remember the Argentine air force attacking the shipping in
the harbor with anti-ship missiles made the game exciting for about a minute. Of course
the British won. Seems like it might be a good subject for TOAW.

in color

the UI isn't great, with maybe the icon's to small, but the map detail is very good, unless you wish for color, then for me it's poor or not so good...

planning overall map looks good as it has ships as depots, ranges are for arty support, air units, AA control, full supply the ability to go into rather a lot of detail, maybe too much for me, but some may love it

the demo gives you 2 basic maps to play with and a taste of the game

I seem to remember seeing one but like you I'm have a lot more time behind me than ahead of me so a big pile of boxes have fell off the memory track. [:D]

John Tiller made a Squad Battles version: http://johntillersoftware.com/ModernSquadBattles.html

Or go here: http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenar ... enario.php

There are two scenarios under the Cold War/Falkands War sub-category on the right hand side of the page. One put together by Jose Valdes and another by Stephen R. Schaffter back in 2002/2003. Not played them meself.

And if you want to try it out yourself just download the attachment to this post. It's the scenario zipped up
and so you'll have to truncate the ".txt" off the file name and unzip it.

I detected that somebody downloaded the scenario from the post above and I'm curious
what your impressions were. Did you have any problems with it? Is it still sortof balanced?
Are you still interested in it after having seen it up close?

[:D] They can download all the scenarios they could ever play at Rugged Defense aka the-strategist link above. ^^^

Might also be able to pick up here: http://www.theblitz.org/

Some of the guys have sites with scenarios. Can't recall where on TOAW forum they are listed. Not like they are secret or anything. [;)]

You know it sounds like we need a sticky thread that lists all the places you can go to find good scenarios for TOAW. Rugged
Defense is my favorite. I've heard of the Blitz but have never been there myself. I would put together such a list myself but I don't
know where all the sites are. I suppose I could google TOAW or something. But I'm trying to put together my moves for my game
with Brian and he needs the moves asap so he can get them back to me by this early evening. So I can work on 'em overnight.

On my website stands a free game about this war, but the graphic is old.
