Very excited Bloody April is happening

Post by wodin »

I mentioned Terry Simo Bloody April WW1 operational air wargame a few times to Slitherine about doing a conversion. I even posted on the blog a small list of boardgame designers who are looking for developers. Bloody April is perfect for a conversion. The computer dealing with all the rules. Plus it looks at WW1 air warfare at a totally different scale. I know Terry was having trouble finding some one to do it and I'm so happy Lordz is making it happen.

It also has the possibility of creating your own missions etc etc..and i hope to rpg\squadron management aspects.

I can't wait.

Oh it also has one of the most beautiful maps out there..

Looks like an interesting game.

I bought this game. It was a nightmare solo. So much bookkeeping. {its not a solo game - Seemed possible to play it, but it was too hard. I think even with two players the admin was excessive }.

perfect for a digital platform if they can pull it off.

Thanks:)

The three of us are really committed to the blog.

InXile, Harebrainded Schemes and Tripwire Interactive and three big names that will be sending us their new releases for review which we are really happy about. Our dream is for the blog to actually become a proper website and a go to place for the communities we cover. I'd like to get too a point where we publish everyday some kind of article.

Thanks for the info Jason.... I have the board game and look forward to the digital... I haven't played the board game much as I think it needs to be set up for a considerable length of time. I'd be soloing it. I like the rules and the concept Terry has implemented.

This is indeed very good news[:)] I'm reading the Book Bloody April by Peter Hart.

*Shameless bump*

Sorry I can't resist or stop thinking about this... As Jason mentioned the scale of this game is operational. (btw I'd love to see a tactical ww1 air combat game also)

but this game will probably (the board game does) include things like wind drift, rate of climb, sun position, defensive wheels, pilot ratings and 'wind up's' plus with multiple flights and escorts there's going to be a lot of stuff up in the air over an awesome map.

I'm just too excited. I know it's wish-full thinking as it's just recently been announced but "Imagine an April 2017 release" that's 100 years.

Of every game I have ever dreamed of this could be IT! Ok time to splash cold water on my face.

Jason if you were in any way instrumental in getting this going .... Thank You!

Interesting, i allways find attractive air war in WWI but out of simulators there are not a lot options for PC... i dont dislike tactical but i prefer something like "Rule the Waves" even if lacks combat area.

This game is a little in the middle no??? you dont have research-production-creation of units BUT you can follow a campaign where casualties have impact in game.

If i dont understand it bad every counter represent from 1 airplane to 6 (a british squadron size unit no???) i am curious if you can know the name of the pilots in the counter and if they score kills individualy, something like Gary Gribsby WWII air combat game.

I am curious to know of game is going to be a pure table wargame translated to PC (2D enviroment like Heroes of Stalingrad style) or is going to use some of the generic game engine used now in Slitherine-Matrix games, i feel the counters of the game are to small and not very detailed.

Lets see how evolution the game... but if i dont understand it bad game is going to be in far future because they anounce start of development in 2017 or they want say game is for 2017???

Although I like Simo´s work, specially in Elusive Victory (don´t have Downtown), I can´t say Iam exited about Lordz doing the port. Beta tested Check your 6, and wasent to happy about how it turned out, and some issues like the map scrolling on it´s own might havent even been fixed! Just my thoughts...

Lol i am going to comment the same, after the failure of "Check your 6" i lose all interest in the Bloody April game... one of the worst port and game i see in last years, all that could be done wrong was done even worst in CY6 and looks like devs abandoned game months ago.

If they keep doing this they are going to be a hard competitor for Hexwars and his ports [8|]

When I last spoke to Terry early on in the year he was frustrated as no work at all had been done. The game was one of a few AWNT considered as our first foray into development as Terry was getting to the point of giving up with Lordz.

Regretfully the dev lads thought it a bit complex for a first foray into wargames so we went with Minden Games Combat Leader.

Now if BA is still stalled at the time AWNT has more experience to do BA justice I'd love to take it on.
