No turn until much later, but...

Early reports cite witnesses seeing smoke over the fleet after a night air attack...

Home Islands west. Two days before support troops begin unloading at Kochi. There were a few night surface battles and night air strikes, but none notable. Engineering units will begin loading tonight at Amami Oshima for Kochi to supplement those already at sea. Support units began landing to day at Tokara Retto and will begin landing tonight at Yakushima. Two P-47D squadrons (the last of that mark remaining) hopped from Amami Oshima to Tokara Retto today with the arrival of support and the airfield building to operational fighter strip size. SoPac Command HQ (Halsey) will land at Kochi tonight to boost morale and ignite fighting spirit to cosmic proportions.

Somehow I have to start gathering shipping and rounding up the units for the Kumamoto invasion. The land advance out of Kochi has begun, and tomorrow the first armored units will leave the hex. Two more days for the first infantry and artillery to follow them. There are about 11,000 defenders at Matsuyama, so I figure that the force moving now can take that place (despite terrain) after sweeping aside the ex-Kochi defenders currently on the road. Takamatsu is clear terrain but with more defenders. By the time we are moving on that place we should have a lot more land based fighters in place to help shepherd air strikes. The force now moving is 4 divisions, all the artillery and all but one armored unit. The remaining 2 divisions and 1 armored unit will set out for Takamatsu once the road is clear and the larger force is already on the way to Matsuyama. That will keep stacking penalties to a minimum.
