get updates every so often. This program doesn't ask for upgrades with a ($ purchase price). probably why I blindly update it every time. But is this program necessary for todays computer?

If you have anything which needs the Java desktop runtime then you'll of course need to keep it around, otherwise I would uninstall it. Either way it is recommended to disable Java entirely in your browsers. Note that Java and Javascript are not the same thing (helpfully...).

When you disable java in your browser, you are only disabling java plugins on web pages. This does not affect the java language executables that games use. Unless I'm wrong.

Okay, I'll ask a dumb question. That's my job. Do I disable Java in the browser while the browser is enabled or can I do it without connecting to the internet. And where do I find the disable button(or whatever)?

How to disable java depends which browser you're using. Try google for help.

Also, make sure you uncheck McAfee unless you want it. Which many do not.

The only reason you need java these days is if you run programs that use it. I think some games like Minecraft use it. If you do not know any app that needs it to run, then just uninstall.

Why is it better to uninstall Java? Is it because of saving memory space?

Thanks very much Chemkid. Also good to know about Tracker WITP-AE needing Java.

It does (I'm using it). But not any Java. v.6 IIRC. v. 8 will not work. Unless they fixed it.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
