I lived down there until I was sixteen years old. It's kind of a scummy area beneath that sign. Ugly. Usually smoggy. Amazing how it is glorified. They must have waited for blue skies to take those photos, unless it has gotten better since when I lived there because every time I went by that sign it was smoggy.

I grew up in the area and recently moved, the smog is much better, it's still a bit raunchy, but Hollywood still has some magic left in it. So many studios to see, film and music plus a lot of industry history and more...[:)]

I remember going to Universal Studios when McHales Navy was popular and taking a picture with some of the crew that was walking around. Also had a mummy staggering around too when The Mummy was popular. I'm 61 so that was a while ago. Nothing I would want to see in Hollywood now, things have changed from gentleman to raunchy. My cousin that lives in Pasadena still, she says that there is rarely any smog now. However, I remember when I went to the schools down there until 1971 and they would have smog alerts. We would have to stay inside and have no recess. My dad would come home from work as a carpenter and be sick to his stomach from the smog. Oh the memories...
