ADM Yamamoto TF Command

Post by AMaf »

I've currently started a WitPAE campaign as IJ against the Allied AI.
I've played nearly 1 month and it is Dec 31, 1941. I still have RADM Kawamura
heading a Surface Combat TF.. I've kept him at sea from the opening turn and I just realized
I could have put ADM Yamamoto in command of the KB on the opening turn!
Is there any way to put the ADM in a combat (TF) command at my point in the game?
If possible how? Any help is much appreciated!

THE Admiral should be heading up Combined Fleet.

When the chance allows itself, promote Yamaguchi to head KB.

Not sure the game will allow Yamamoto to command the KB, but I bet the PP cost will be prohibitive. Its not easy to get certain commanders to where you may like them.

Thanks and with all due respect you can do it the first turn relatively
cheap 50 some odd pp plus the replacement for CF.
He has command skills close to Halsey, way better than Yamaguchi I think?
Is there a way to do it after the KB TF gets disbanded?

The trick is to not disband the KB. You can transfer all the CV's out and place them in port, at this time the KB TF will revert to a surface combat TF (IIRC). When you want to put the CV's back in I think (again IIRC) you can then make the TF an Escort TF, load the CV's and then change the TF to Carrier. Its been a while since I've tried it, but I think that's how it works.

As far as Yamamoto goes, TBH I'm looking to prepare for a PBEM, and I look at all PP expenditures as golden. I wouldn't have 50 to spare for him, and quite frankly I don't believe he's needed in the early game. Maybe later, thanks.

WELCOME to the Forum PAL!!!!! Its only taken you how many years to take the plunge???!!!!

For all other formites - Amaf has been lurking for many a years and has taught me many valuable WiTP tips!! Great to see ya here!

Anyway, all you have to do is replace Yamamoto with someone else as head of the combined fleet. After he's in the pool, he is selectable as a TF commander - but his stats really aren't that good for a TF commander. But you can do it if you pay the PP...

Enjoy the forum Amaf!!

Nice, thanks bud! The honor is mine. [8D]
Every time I read this Forum I learn something,
good guys posting all the way around, and you're no slouch
with the 'historiker' gameplay analysis as far that goes!
rustysi is right, the KB TF can get him, not sure about other
AC TF's.
Yamamoto IS available for my KB TF, which just returned to port after the 1st month at sea.
He's an 80 Naval 65 Air, so when the Allied TF's sneak past my heavy cover TF
with Dutch and Brit Cruisers as often as they do, I'm hoping Isoroku can maneuver the Carriers from
getting hit, which up until now, IJ Carrier Commanders seem unable to accomplish
as they possess very mediocre Naval Skills, unlike their fearsome Allied counterparts.
