New Scenario for Testing - The Bridge at Alfeld, 1988

Post by vettim89 »

Based on Chapters 29-30 from Red Storm Rising. The Sovs are forcing the Liene and they mean business! Can you as Commander of a special Air Task Force knock the bridges down and keep them down? This is a dynamic scenario where the NATO player gets reinforced as the situation grows more desperate. Oh, and yes, the Sovs will rebuild the bridges if you knock them down to don't be happy if you are successful the first time

Oh sweet, a Red Storm Rising scenario! Is this actually the first scenario in this game based off the book?

I would say there are several scenarios loosely based on the book but this one is meant to portray the events of the book as close as possible. It is specifically modeled to replicate the day after the 20th GTD forces the bridge in chapter 29.

Alright, I'm in the middle of this one, and I have a few notes:
add loss of points for loss of aircraft
I destroyed all 3 bridges, but still got the message that the soviets crossed over

Bridging units rebuild the bridges once you destroy or damage the original - you didn't think it was going to be that easy did you? [:D] That said, you should have received a message informing you that bridges have been rebuilt/repaired. If that did not happen, I need to know

My thinking on the aircraft points (or lack thereof) is that the situation is so desperate for NATO at this point in time that aircraft losses are just accepted as the price that needs to be paid

I didn't get a message that the bridges were repaired. I guess that makes sense, and even though NATO is desperate, I still took horrible losses for the strike. I sorta forgot about the Jaguars for the first strike I launched.

Also, as I let the scenario run, I'm getting messages that more units are crossing, and the forces under my command are growing, but I can see in God's eye view that no more bridges are appearing and it doesn't seem that the soviets are getting any more reinforcements. Here's an example:

6/23/1988 8:29:58 AM - : Event: '0830 Bridge Check' has been fired.

6/23/1988 8:30:49 AM - NATO: New contact! Designated MOBILE #276 - Detected by No 7 Squadron #4 (Alpha Jet B1) [Sensors: ELT-156] at 71deg - Estimated 57nm

6/23/1988 8:30:49 AM - NATO: New contact! Designated MOBILE #277 - Detected by No 7 Squadron #4 (Alpha Jet B1) [Sensors: ELT-156] at 74deg - Estimated 57nm

6/23/1988 8:32:27 AM - : Event: 'Bridge #3 Repair - Bridge #3a in place' has been fired.

6/23/1988 8:32:27 AM - : Lua script execution error: A .NET exception occured in user-code

OK something weird is going on with the coding here. I am reexamining the way the events are supposed to proceed vs how they are actually proceeding

Found it - one misplaced capital letter. Need to debug it tomorrow but I think it will work now

Okay version 1.1 is uploaded and appears to be working as designed. One misplaced capital letter was the bulk of the problem, but I discovered two more minor errors in the process of fixing that one. All is good now.
