Saving the game

Post by Mayhemizer_slith »

Has anyone else problems when saving using "File / Save game" that game does not save? If I do that and en game, I have to use auto save. If I use "Save game as" and give new name to save file everything is OK.

Do you get the response: "Overwrite the saved game C:\Matrix Games\World in Flames\Scenarios\Global War\Saved Games\<filename>?" Perhaps you are using a non-default directory for your saved games. Also if they lack the extension ".GAM" somehow, MWiF may not recognize them as files belonging to MWiF.

I just tried it and for me it overwrote the game file I had saved previously.

I use default directory.

It has work well until now. Let's see if I can find what is wrong with my computer...

I have played MWiF since it was launched. I have always used "save game" to save it and it have worked well.

Now it does not save. If I use "save as" it works well (over writing old save or creating new one).

I can live with it now when I know it, but it is weird.

I have had intermittent trouble with the "Save Game" command. Rather than worry about it, I always use the "Save As" command.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

If you don't get the query about overwriting the file name you opened to start with, then MWiF has somehow lost track of it. Or are you saying you get that, answer Yes, and the file does not get overwritten?

I don't get (any more) warning about over writing old file when using "save game".

Check your saved files to see if they have the extension ".GAM" at the end. You may have to use View/Options and select the View tab and uncheck the box beside "Hide extensions for known file types". Check your Saved Games directory and see if the files all have that extension.

My problem is definitely caused by the extension going wrong -- sometimes the file is saved as something else. (I think it was a .txt file, but don't remember for sure.) Using "Save as" always works, so I did not worry about an intermittent bug.

I have normal saves "game file" and there are some failed save files that are just "file".

No idea what is causing that, but I will use "save as" in the future.
