Missile UNREP

Post by Rory Noonan »

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can shed light on the possibility of UNREP/RAS for standard & harpoon missiles for use in a Mk13 launcher? I know VLS is only done alongside, but I can't find any references to confirm or deny whether OHP class frigates (when they had the mk 13) could have their missile complement replenished at sea.

There's an interesting article about sea-reloading:

I know from serving on an Adelaide (Perry) class FFG that there are a bunch of cranes and moving equipment around, just not sure if the mk13 could be reloaded at sea.

Mk41 on the other hand, I can see why that's only done in port!

Some pages that might be helpful...it seems that at least it could be possible. Not sere if ever used.

Seems that transfer is done with Mk 6 missile transfer dolly no matter what sort of transfer it is, UNREP-CONREP, VERTREP or pierside.

Some great references above, thank you.

I think it's probably something that would be done in war time, but due to risk, lack of need and plain difficulty would be left alone in peacetime or low intensity conflict.

Thanks again for the great responses!
