Can we reduce the number of stickies?

Post by Lokasenna »

There are SO MANY now that it reduces the number of threads visible at the bottom of the main page to just 10. It's gotten out of hand.

+1

A general 'Stickies' thread with categorized links could be used to 'capture' the existing stickies. They could then be unstickied without being 'lost'.

A "Beginner's" sticky would also very useful as I've already outlined HERE. Reducing the number of other stickies would make it that much easier for new players to find it, and would reduce the load on forum veterans answering the same questions again and again. I've found that the forum members are more than happy to help - that's not the issue - but we're not doing everything possible to help new players (which we need) when the best resources are buried in the forums.

I say, let's take all the stickies and attach them to "The War Room" instead? I've never understood why we need two forums to do the job of one. But as long as we have "stickies" why don't we dump them on the degenerates [:D] who use that other forum?

Let's even make some more stickies so the first page only shows them and "The Thread"?

What do you have against Ellen and her family? I think she is quite humorous. And I'm not sure how to spell her last name either or I would correct you!

There are several that are more properly a Tech Support thread (How to start a PBEM, how to update with the betas), several that are more properly scenario design and modding (Land issues, naval OOB issues, air issues, economic issues), and so forth.

Also, do the threads on "massive update!" from 2011 and Game of the Year really need to still be stickied?

I've often thought a number of threads could be unstickied. It's been a low priority compared to the rest of my life and it falls off the to do list. I'm open to suggestions about candidates for demotion.

At least six of the last seven. Leave the AE Glossary I'm sure nubies could use it.

I think any thread I start should be a sticky, somewhere. It's like when you're eating cotton candy and you try to lick it off your fingers but you never get all of it. [:(]

One of the stickies is for a sale that ended a year ago. IMHO there is no harm in letting that one go entirely.

Its a permanent 'thread' that remains at the top of the first page of the forum.

Not valid anymore: Top: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition is discounted by 50 percent!

Also you can put all video threads into one....perhaps also all patch ones and name the thread just "PATCH INFO HERE" (or so)

I can assure you some of the images you have evoked have stuck in our minds and, try as we might, we cannot un-see them!
