I don't happen to know if their are good games covering these, and it might be difficult to come up with a decent order of battle, but a short list of ones I'd like to see:
Cannae
Alesia
Salamis
Breitenfeld
Lützen

So reading that, when WitP is mentioned it doesn't seem positive ... I don't think 2by3 will take it up again ...

it was said here and there over forum several times, no witp2 as the first one was nightmare.....
well, unless there's new team to rewrite it, but I doubt there would be. Reading that I'm even more impressed with AE effort and michaelm beta patches

I had a Commodore 64 cartridge game called "Battle of the Bulge" - can't remember the publisher. It was a strategy game with a time element.ORIGINAL: Sardaukar
Microprose's Gunship in Commodore 64....good old days [8D]
The units on the map moved along roads to the towns you set them to and could collide with enemy movement at any point. Once you gave the orders you sat back and accelerated the timeline until you saw something you needed to interrupt and give new orders.
The key element was units getting fatigued or not following orders - you had to decide whether to exhort the fatigued/errant ones with orders to keep moving or let them rest and regain their strength. Terrain and strategic position played a big part in the decisions.
What I remember most clearly was that if you get a Tank Combat Team behind the German main thrust and take out their artillery, the Allied infantry could stand against the Panzers.
In many ways it was like a mini version of WITP-AE ... deciding where to block and where to abandon, how to allocate units, and what to protect (Allied fuel dumps were critical of course).
