Steam has their annual Holiday-Christmas sale starting in (usually) in December...

Yep - a solid sale on some of the old games that have not been modernized would get me to spend some money.

Titles like Eagle Day / Bombing the Reich have been on my list for a while. But pay a premium price for a little 1024 x 768 window or stretched graphics? And possibly some manual client side tinkering required ? No way.

For all such titles I'd pay up to about $10 unless work was done to revamp them.

Steam generally has big discounts on older games in their semi-annual sales (Christmas & Summer) and through out the year (weekly & daily sales)...keep your eyes peeled! [:)]

Yep - that's true Wings - but my issue is that many older / real War Games from Tiller, BFC and Matrix are not sold there.

I think one of them needs to take the bold initiative of offering older games at a reduced price and advise that the games are sold "as is".

Then - if I need to tinker with it - edit config files / mess with DirectX etc, I can say "Well - they told me and it was at the right price".

This is currently not the case.

And I wonder if that is wise on their part?

If they were to pull a bunch of them down to 10 or 13 dollars, and I bought 5 games - still 50 bucks in their pockets. As it is now - no purchase = 0 dollars.

Since it's all digital now - the only overhead would then be ongoing support. That is where the "as is" clause would come in.

Have you looked into the second hand market like eBay, etc.?

Not a bad idea Wings - although I got burnt on e-Bay a while back so had been avoiding it.

But if I could find a 5 or 10$ version of Eagle Day / Bombing the Reich - it may be worth it.

I would still prefer it to come from Matrix though - as I know "where they live" and can poke them if the goods are not delivered.

Matrix - Have another one for our election,

The Christmas sale usually hits right after Thanksgiving and runs through January. If you could wait just 3 weeks longer, or so, you'll have your sale.
