[RESOLVED] Crashing whenever I select units
So from the title itself, the game crashes whenever I select individual or grouped units for some reason.
Some background:
I checked the exception logs and it says it ran out of memory and I thought "hmmm, weird". Last time I had that error (on my laptop only) is when I played the Korean Campaign, 2018 in which I understand the why it would crash since there are tons of AU in the scenario (plus modified it to add more). Fast forward to yesterday at around evening, CMANO just seem to stop working when I play the scenario that I'm working on. The days before this problem, everything was working fine in either SR1 or SR2 versions. I thought it was really my scenario where it had many AU's (around 2,500-ish <is that considered many?>) so I kinda gave up on that. However when I loaded other heavy-ish load scenarios, the same thing would happen; the game would just crash whenever I click any units. Then I decided to load light to medium load scenarios like Tanker Wars or Operation Bass Drum, and the same thing would happen. I decided to verify the files of the game and Steam said that there were 55 files that failed to match or something like that. After that was done redownloading, I ran the game and the same thing would happen. One thing I noticed is that the scenario can still run, but as soon as I click on a unit, the game would just crash.
I thought of the update might be related to the crash, but I already had SR2 days before the problem. I decided to use my desktop and tried to reproduce the problem but the game works fine when I click units.
tl;dr
Whenever I click any individual or grouped units, the game would just crash in my laptop. The game/scenarios can still run given that I won't click any units (though there's no point in doing a scenario). It would still crash no matter how light or heavy the performance load of the scenario. I tried to reproduce the problem in my desktop but the game works normally.
Laptop:
i7-5500U
GTX 950M
8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
1TB 5400 RPM HDD
Desktop:
Pentium G3258 OC'd to 3.8 GHz
8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
1TB 7200 RPM HDD
Both are Steam version, Command v1.11 SR2 - Build 839.4

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
Weird [8D]
Could you go to the Options window, turn on Detailed Debug Logging, and restart the game. Then reproduce the crash, go to the \Logs directory in your Command folder, zip the file named ExceptionLog.txt, and upload it here.
Can you also take a screenshot immediately after you've clicked on a unit, and also upload here.
Thanks!

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
Can you try to disable unit images (from Game Options) and see if this issue still persists? (I suspect there may be an error when attempting to load the relevant unit image upon selecting a unit. Dodgy image loading can sometimes generate an OOM exception out of the blue.).
Thanks.
Thanks.
RE: Crashing whenever I select units
I decided to hit two birds with one stone. I disabled the images then just decided to do it on a blank scenario. I did the same things and it gives me the same problem.
470 is before I click the unit
472 and 473 is after I click the unit
If you notice, the time is a bit different. It's because when I first "logged" the problem, it didn't gave me an exception log so I just redid it again.
Also, the memory usage isn't that high. When I play CMANO, the private memory working set doesn't go more than 600MB while the memory working set doesn't go more than 700MB.
I changed the attached file because I forgot to include the screenshots.
Edit:
Also the I forgot the OS, if that's any help.
Windows 8.1 Single Language x64 for the laptop
Windows 7 Professional x64 for the desktop.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm okay... interesting screenshots and logfile. It just freezes and no exceptions are reported in the logfile, not even silent ones.
Can you try to delete the Command.ini file found in the root folder of your installation. Did that fix the problem?
Also, have you moved the Command files, or changed the location where Steam installs files?

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
I did delete the .ini file but the problem still persists.
My Steam library is in my D: drive since the day I installed Steam.
What I could do is to copy the entire files of the game in my desktop and replace the ones in my laptop and see if it does anything.
Also one thing that got lost in my mind is that the day before the problem persisted, I tried to save a large-ish scenario but it's taking too long (it usually takes my laptop around 5~15 seconds to save if the scenarios contain >2,000 AU's). Since it was taking too long (like it's been 5 minutes has passed and the game decided to freeze), I just forced kill the game via Task Manager and it was also the end of the day so I stopped to rest. I wasn't able to notice the problem until next day afternoon when I tried to continue it.
I can understand a scenario being corrupted, but I don't understand why my game is like this.
I'll update you in 6 or 7 hours.

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
Sorry for the late reply. I decided to take a quick rest after getting home but my body decided to sleep and the copying and pasting took so long.
Anyway, I tried to replace the files on my laptop but to no avail. The same problem still happens.
Another thing that I tried to do is to try to play it from my external hard drive. I have done it with CS:GO before and it works on any PC though I will use it on my laptop. But I faced a problem where Steam is trying to redownload the entire game instead of just verifying the files and updating if necessary. I'm trying to see if the problem is with my laptop or with the game itself. I'm also trying to eliminate other variables when playing it. Although I would do it again tomorrow.
Edit:
One last thing that I may do if all else fails is to system restore my laptop to a week ago (7/11). Hopefully this may fix it if other steps can't.

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
Just a quick update.
I don't know why but CMANO is WORKING FINE again for some reason. I didn't do anything since last night and I haven't done the external HDD thing yet. I can now click units and the game goes on normally. This is also the first time I opened the game today. I just have no idea why or how.
Although I have problems loading with my other scenarios, some would load, some won't; no matter how heavy the performance load of the scenarios. I had backups of my scenarios and hopefully it's just corrupted. Not because of the game itself too.

Lol okay this is weird [8D]
On the scens that won't load, what does the debug log file say? Could you post a couple of those files here?
Thanks!

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
Here it is.
It says that the version of the DB is not found? I was able to work on scenarios before the crashing problem occurred. Like in the main post, the game is in SR2 already days before the crash.
All the scenarios that I'm working on is on B444, however some wouldn't load but some will. All the updates that occurred is done by Steam automatically.
I also tried to copy the files (.scens) from my laptop to the desktop and I got the same results. It looks like that something is wrong with the .scens?

It may also be worth running some system diagnostics to check if you have bad disk chunks or damaged ram. Another option is reinstalling windows but that's never fun....

RE: Crashing whenever I select units
I think I now know the problem of the scenarios not loading. I was making a test scenario on how effective lasers are. I decided to add ASBM's to the list and tried to place the DF-26, to my surprise, it wasn't in the database. I thought my mind is playing games on me as I have seen it on the database before. I also remembered the 2017-ish Kongo and Atago destroyers together with that new Japanese supersonic AShM. I also tried to find it but the 3 of them didn't appear. I then decided to check the change logs and I just confirmed that the "missing" units/weapons were added but it's not appearing on my database.
I'm currently redownloading the SR2 again and see if this fix the problems.
Edit 1:
How do I install the update via the exe that you provided? It keeps saying that either the base game or NI is NOT installed. This is the first time I'm doing this as the other ones that I've used before are by .zip files or by Steam's automatic updater.
Edit 2:
The "broken" scenarios are now working again. I just did the Steam game verification thing and it fixed the problem about the database.
Looks like no more problems here.
This thread can be marked solved.
