Let me clarify, a pig as to muddy your road to success. Schachmatt is "checkmate" in German !!

I've been following this AAR for the last several months and am especially studying the thought process behind snow/blizzard tactics, and the Rostov breakout. My understanding is sillyflower is an aging lawyer and current WITE superstar at the height of his fame, while I am a young aspiring lawyer ready to absorb the wisdom of elders and then use it all to take their jobs/win at WITE. [:o]

That sneaky purple mountain division looks like it could be nasty if Brian doesn't retreat fast enough. I wonder how he is building long-term defensive lines farther to the east to protect Baku.

Good for you. I retired early as a lawyer (aged 59) as I always wanted to quit at the height of my game - and before any of my partners wanted me to. I think I achieved both.

South. Restoring the rail link and generally keeping the commies occupied.

More fun in the Caucasus

Image

Not such of advance to the south east as I try to keep concentrated in the European zone and I'm not ready for a dash to cut the Astrakan-Baku rail line, with mud for the next 2 turns. Clearing the east flank of my supply line.

My mtn div cuts the coastal rail just west of Sukhimi. It was only protected by an inf xx with fewer than 2,500 men which promptly routed when attacked. He has the port of Tuapse in the 'pocket, so I tried a bit of port bombing but only got 1% damage on a level 5 port. Best to save the bombers for Baku which is only level 3. Hopefully I can keep those troops (which seem to be the bulk of his combat power in the Caucasus for some reason) bottled up until I can capture the rail line at Baku which will isolate them all, and Sevastopol. In the meantime 1 Pz Army starts marching east to join the main offensive when the weather improves.

Brian managed to get back adjacent to Rostov to mess with my supply line again [:@], but his tank xxx ran away and he won't repeat his feat in he mud. In the mountains he failed to break my lock on the coastal rail and the tank xxx on the line decided that it was too dangerous to stay there (see combat screen). I shuffle south east a little in the clear zone but without any urgency as it's mud again next turn and I'm almost at the edge of the european weather zone. Mainly trying to get everyone fuelled and in their jump-off positions for T52.

I have 2 FBDs with my main advance towards Baku so I can convert 4 hexes per turn regardless of weather/terrain. 2 others in the south west to get N and K towns linked up to the supply net and the 5th is near Rostov. Nothing for them to convert anywhere else on the map.

T 51

Image

Not terribly exciting turn as the Wehrmacht creeps along keeping to the Europe weather zone where possible and creating a couple of small pockets: 1 secure, 1 not.

Losses were 1.7KG to 5.9K + air 81 to 102, with 2 Bolshevik inf brigades shattering. Novorossiysk becomes a functioning port connected to the rail network

No spoilers, but it really hots up next turn.

Riposte????? A grandiose word for mosquito-swatting.

Is Brian's AAR ahead of mine in terms of game turn? Would be helpful to know - tho' not about any of the content obviously.

He shown his victory near Moscow and his "counter attack" South of Rostov

If you do it well he will be in big trouble[;)]

T52 Moscow

Image

All that armour north of Moscow has to do something as I still have no spare rail capacity. The reinforcements either go straight down south or to the nort/centre to replace better qlity units which can the go south.

Kalinin wasn't on the cards so I thought that a lunge further west was more fun.I forgot to write down what's in the 2 pockets but I think it is 2 divs and 3 brigades or else vice versa. Pocket is very secure. Will have to wait until T54 (next clear turn) to eliminate them but then other opportunities to the north or northwest beckon unless he pumps more troops into the area which would also be good.

Rostov area

Image

Focussing on avoiding another interruption of the rail link at Rostov, and setting up to retake Voroshilovograd, tho' this is of secondary importance at the moment.

In the (unpictured) centre just local attacks to hold the line
