downloaded on steam today

Post by darthsmaul »

mine says "WarinTheEast Application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I then close it and that it is. Its when I hit play, that is all the further I get,

someone from Slitherine said to change video folder to _video but that didn't help, I also noticed after that when I looked in the dat folder it had 2 folders now video and _video and I know I changed the name I didn't create a 2nd one, anyway, doesn't let me event get to the videos, I assume it is crashing during the 2 videos for matrix or 2x3 but Im not sure

I have also uninstalled it and then downloaded and installed it on steam again, any help would be appreciated, steam forms seem dead so far.

I also updated all my drivers to make sure.

What's your Operating system ?
What's the installation folder of your game?
Please save a dxdiag report file and upload it here as attachment.
If renaming both video and sound folders does not help please try right-clicking on the game executable "WarInTheEast.exe" and choosing "Run as Administrator". The Administrator thing might help if done at least once.

Windows 10 home edition 64 bit

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East

Just tried the WarInTheEast.exe run as admin and same thing occurs.

Anti virus and firewall exclude the game.
I've tried running steam as admin.
I've even tried running the compatibility on the exe file.

How do I attach a file on the forum?

I think it's best to add another Steam folder outside of Program Files and install the game there. It was never compatible with newer Windows policy of not writing to the game's installation directory, but to a separate directory in user's profile directory.

Notebook with switching Intel/Nvidia gfx.
This may be a problem with either of the two gfx, Intel is known for somewhat buggy drivers. Nvidia Control panel should have an option to force high performance graphics for selected executables so try to enforce it for WarInTheEast.exe
If that works you could try the opposite setting so nvidia is not used for WitE.

Maybe you're affected by this?

tm.asp?m=4111353

Try to install DirectX redistributable and try to run the game outside Steam.

I can get it to work on Windows seven but I get this question when I do:

The application warintheeast has made an attempt to load ffdshow this dialogue is shown because this application is not listed in the ffdshow whitelist or blacklist. your choice will be applies to both audio and video if both are used

then I select dont use ffdshow (just this once) and then it runs fine. Thoughts So I can get this to work on my new computer?

ffdshow is an Audio/Video Codec used to play audio/video files. Something related to ffdshow just asks for confirmation to enable ffdshow for any A/V file used by WitE.
AFAIR Ffdshow is not a standard component of any windows curently available, it's most often part of some codec packs.
