How to activate on steam?

Ive just purchased this game from the ageod website and have the download link and serial number but how do I activate it on steam?

Please follow these instructions to activate a new retail purchase on Steam:

Launch the Steam client software and log into your Steam account.

Click the Games Menu.

Choose Activate a Product on Steam...

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

then sit back while it downloads and installs, then enjoy your purchase

Yeah I know how to do that by the serial code ive got in my email isn't valid when I try to activate it on steam.

that's the format of my code but steam doesn't like it.

do I have to redeem the code somewhere to get a steam code?
