Allied heavy bombers hit two bases in Honshu, hit the Chinese mtn defense and Nanning.

Then the Allies shock attack...but I can't hurt Allied tanks anymore...not enough artillery left.

Kobe reaches forts level 4 and fort building is turned off....

VP ratio is now 2.287 to 1 but the Allies are on the march in China and supplies are hard to come by. I am merely a punching bag there now.

Pretty much all I can currently see of the Allied carriers...my search planes have taken a beating and pools are gone. I pretty much have to restrict search to my few ambushes I have setup.

Dark days...[:)]

October 7, 1944

Already a week gone in October, and Japan is crumbling, but can she crumble slow enough to last until Jan 1.

Heck, I don't know.

Allied hordes pushing on at Nanning, and we get a decent result, thanks to the fact that the Allied bombers were pounding the Chinese mountains to the north.

Getting an error trying to load pictures...so here is some text.

Ground combat at Nanning (72,55)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 12614 troops, 298 guns, 1003 vehicles, Assault Value = 1866

Defending force 32713 troops, 432 guns, 162 vehicles, Assault Value = 960

Allied adjusted assault: 238

Japanese adjusted defense: 2877

Allied assault odds: 1 to 12 (fort level 4)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
745 casualties reported
Squads: 4 destroyed, 68 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 15 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled

Allied ground losses:
688 casualties reported
Squads: 32 destroyed, 35 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 35 disabled
Engineers: 3 destroyed, 7 disabled
Guns lost 22 (2 destroyed, 20 disabled)
Vehicles lost 69 (4 destroyed, 65 disabled)

In the last 8 days the Allies have picked up .022 VP in the ratio, and it now stands at 2.291 to 1.

Can I hold...It is hard to see how Hong Kong, Canton, Chungking will hold for the next few months...supply shortage.

Two fights in China, and we hold our ground, forts are still 4 at Nanning...but the Allied tank heavy juggernaut there won't be stopped for long as I simply can't inflict enough losses on them.

Supplies critical in China...

A garrison style infantry division is racing towards Kweiyang...50 miles away and moving fast. I think if they make it there in time I will be able to hold for a while.

It is tough in northern China as all the Allied bombers are hitting me there...but that is good news for the Nanning defenders.

Allies continue bombing the industry/resources of Honshu and in general pick up close to 300 vp per day.

The ratio now stands at 2.296 to 1 and I fear a large invasion of Honshu again. I am in no position to stop it, reserve troops almost all gone. Holding the lines against the Allies, and trying to prevent another invasion is simply too much ground to cover for what is left of the Japanese troops, especially given the relentless naval bombardments.

However, I am making plans to assemble as large a force as I can to rail into whatever hex is invaded next and try to hold them on the beach. The good news is that forts are 5 or 6 in most of the beaches.

A futile hope I fear given the complete control of the air and sea the Allies have.[:(]

Circled are the two most favorable spots for the Allies to invade. Not much in troops and the forts are at 3 or 4. Elsewhere they are 5 or 6.

Both bases are getting pummeled by aerial bombardments and naval bombardments. But there is also a battleship bombardment fleet operating against the northern Honshu beaches too.

I have so much troops and AA at Kobe...and they need to march thru Osaka and then be railed around.

I have so many units that are really shattered from constant naval bombardments that they need to rest and recover disablements. They go to less likely invasion beaches.

My AV at Tokyo is a paltry 100, but there is a good stock of artillery units ready to rail out.

Supplies are going to get grim, as I am hoarding it at several bases not likely to be aerially bombed, to be released in dribs and drabs until the next invasion.

I am eagerly waiting for each new turn here. This late war situation makes me quite nervous. Yet I cannot see the "Disaster!" label of the Topic, thus I allowed myself to change it a little bit [;)]

Note: But when will it be displayed properly, I am puzzled

Thanks Barb.

Sorry I am flipping turns so slowly now...

The disaster label refers to months of maneuvering to catch the Allied carriers (the Singapore fleet) with my battleships. I finally caught them, at night, and viola the Allies evaded the fight. What a disaster!!![:D]

I have been too lazy to change it since then.[;)]

I see the Clouds are getting darker each day! at the top of your post, and I believe with my reply it will now show up ...

Got the turn finished finally, and I am moving lots of troops on Honshu from west to east.

A newly made destroyer will try to flee Honshu...I thought about sending her in as a suicide run, but moonlight is 70+ percent so I will run instead.

Normal cap trap up...

BBs are now repairing a point a day, and could see action in a month or so.

October 9, 1944

A lone IJN Destroyer, freshly built and crewed, attempts a run from Honshu. Moonlight is fairly strong...and the Captain is in Escort mode in an attempt to avoid Allied fleets.

That attempt works to a degree, as the Hanazuki avoids one encounter and then runs into this convoy.

Orders be damned....the Hanazuki charges and lets loose her torpedoes....

Frantic radio calls, brings an immediate response from TF Pennsylvania. They divert from their planned orders, bombarding Kobe, to intercept.

A long and frustrating fight (for the Allies that is) ensues as the Hanazuki dances around certain death dealing 10cm hits that are effective against the vulnerable radar on the Pennsylvania...

It seems certain, that all thing must come to an end, as the Hanazuki encounters the Singapore battle fleet just east of Daito Shoto[X(]...this can only be bad news for both the Hanazuki and Japan as there are quite a few more battleships here that will now support invasions and bombardments of Japan's shrinking hold on Honshu.

The first shot from the French monster hits, but then the Hanazuki makes smoke, dodges and weaves like and escapes.

Unbelievable! Can the Hanazuki survive daylight and the expected bombers?

Almost all of the major ships from Singers have relocated to the Honshu area! Can't be good, but perhaps I can weaken some Chinese beach positions.

The Pennsylvania returns home and runs into a SC that was trying to lure Allied ships into the CD guns...daytime, and the fight goes as expected.

Honshu is hit hard by aerial bombing, runways and cities targeted.

225,000 fires at Tokyo.[:(]

Just grin, and bear it and hope the AA keeps firing.

Over at Nanning, in China, the brave defenders feel the wrath of the Allied bombers...repeatedly, and then the Allies attack, again, for the third straight day and drop the forts to 3.

But every day now is a victory, no Chinese attack in the mountains -- probably because the Allied bombers were diverted to Nanning.

I will take it, and count it a good day...the Hanazuki lives![:)]
