A very interesting article. The last answer would seem to speak to a couple of earlier posts, as well as potential implications for the effectiveness of look-down/shoot-down radars against targets in the weeds.

Yeah, i wonder if Aleksandr Zuyev was the pilot in question.
Makes me wonder how effective low-level air and cruise missile attacks really are.

Take Iraqi Freedom, Ballistic Missiles were all intercepted or not going to hit anything of value, but antiquated chinese Seersucker cruise-missiles seem to be another matter. Several were fired in the early days, and the Patriot systems seem to have been unable to engage them.

That article was great. But if you want to know even more about how they flew these birds during the Vietnam Era I highly suggest this book.

Flying from the Black Hole: The B-52 Navigator-Bombardiers of Vietnam

Several hundred pages of highly detailed info on how they planned flew and executed missions. Including Linebacker II.
