[FIXED B834] Strange EMCON/Sensor behaviour

Post by I1066 »

Context
  • Scenario: The Tiger and the Dragon
  • Doctrine & inheritance
  • Side Doctrine
    • Group Doctrine
      • Unit Doctrine
  • Unit Sensors

The Issue
The individual units of the Group CAP 2 are using active radars, even when all EMCON settings all the way from Side Doctrine down to the EMCON settings of the individual units indicate they should not use active radar.

The EMCOn settings for the units don't seem to inherit the settings from the group as they should.

And since they are not participating in a mission, there is no mission specific EMCON settings that should have any effect on the units.

So, am I missing something here or what is going on?

State / Details
Right at the start of the "The Tiger and the Dragon" scenario, before pressing the "Start / Resume" button the first time.

PS why do I need to have five empty code-blocks at the end to prevent the post to be completely messed up? The PRE-tag gets a height that's way to small...

IIRC, this might be a scenario initialization issue from scenario design. As ROEs are changed, you need to do resets for inheritances to propagate. This needs to be done as the scenario is saved in design or when you start it up if it wasn't done already.

One of the things I always do when starting a scenario is check that ROE inheritances are reset...just in case. There have been several threads on this in the past.

Ok, but still, all "check boxes" indicate they all inherit as they should, right?

A quick search...

tm.asp?m=3929066&mpage=1&key=inherited&#3929094

tm.asp?m=3952538&mpage=1&key=inherited&#3952970

These were just the ones that jumped out at me.

Again, post a save. Its great that you, for some reason, document the way you do, but without a save to look at the specific environment, everyone is guessing.

There's no need for a save here since it's the initial state when you start the scenario.

I think this is you not knowing the game Squ 1 is on CAP 1 mission. The EMCON for CAP 1 is active and you can't change it unless you unassign from the mission. I don't know why you don't think they are on a mission. Both state they are on CAP 1 or 2.

Am I missing what you are trying to do?

I just unassigned both units from CAP and they went passive before the start.

btw,if you refuse to put a save up, at least put up the version and db you are using...it can make a big difference.

But if you open up the mission...it says active will override it. And it does.

I think you also need to start the game to propagate the settings.

IIRC, under certain circumstances, the unit, group, mission readouts don't align. That is why you always check missions for settings.

You need to press play for the Doctrine changes to take place.

How did you get into this situation? Unassigned the aircraft?

Have made some adjustments in B834 that should refresh EMCON settings even when the game is paused.
