Possible AP bug

Post by Michael T »

Server game. Turn 1 as Soviet I had 6 AP remaining when I ended my turn.

Start of Turn 2 I open and only 50 AP ?

I should have had 56 I think. Any reason why I would lose 6 AP?

Payment for destroyed units returning, other than those rebuilt for free in that period?

So how would the Soviet ever save up a reserve of AP?

I guess this is no longer possible or wise in some periods of the game. Use or lose them?

Yes. I see only positives of this. First of all it (the rebuilds that become free once APs are exhausted) prevents AP crunch as valid strategy, it was a very artificial idea. Also, the consequences of your choices when building the Red Army matter more (you'll have to manually disband units you no longer want, instead of sacrificing them in combat and getting rid of them for free). Finally, I never liked AP saving for (for example) massive rifle corps build up on first turn of 1943. To me AP work only if they represent day-to-day operations of the general staff, building the army slowly in a prolonged process, not being on holidays for two months to later order the creation of 50 rifle corps in one week. So I see this as a win-win change, of course some may not like it, when used to save APs. But you can save APs still, but it's more risky business now, if your army is in a period when it takes a beating. Your general staff should work ceaselessly to improve the situation, not go for a holiday :)

So are the units paid for when they die or the turn they arrive back on the map?

They are paid for (if possible) when they die, so you'll never have less than 50/60 APs at start of turn.

use em or lose em!

Just see if any units will be surrendered. If no risk, than you can save the ap.

Although shatter is now more common even in normal supplied battles.
Although I am not sure if shattered unit automatically rebuild under the new rule.
