Yeah, I've seen it when a 14" hits an HDML or some such small vessel. Fine waste of main gun ammo![:D]

It doesn't take a big shell - I have seen the message when I hit LBs with 40mm shells.

You are wrong. The SC could have wasted at least two torpedoes if not more.

Landing barges and PT boats get obliterated all the time.

What is truly amazing is that they sometimes continue to incur damage AFTER being obliterated.

I think the effects don't take until after a given combat round ends so an obliterated vessel can continue to absorb hits until the round ends.

Yeah, same thing with magazine explosions and ships sinking just as an air attack is being made on them - the ordinance is already in the air so the doomed vessel gets more hits. IRL, the series of photos of CL Yahagi being sunk show her laying over on her side with flotsam all around and bombs still falling on her.

The very next turn I get this unusual result: [:)]

EDIT: I should add that these DDs were laid up in port with heavy damage from previous battles. I brought my B-17s up to have a crack at them after carrier aircraft had trouble with balloons and couldn't hit them.

Pity the poor customer - I am sure John has some pent-up aggression these days! Good thing being beat up with a sandwich loaf is not likely to cause permanent damage!
