The dark green TF doesn't happen to be Australian does it?? (Top left of TF window).

The Olive ones will be US Navy.

Cheers,
Reg.

To add to Reg's answer - it is the nationality of the flagship that dictates the TF colour. The flagship carries an asterisk on the TF display.
You will see brown TFs for British and Commonwealth flagged TFs.

It is even possible to have Chinese ones (which are yellow) but they are rare because Chinese ships are almost all quite small, and size matters in designation of the TF leader.

Russian TFs have that kind of pinkish red colour.

Free French TFs are light blue and NZ ones are a dark blue that nearly blends in with the ocean!

As others have said, the "color" of the task force seems to be dictated by the composition of the the Task Force (commanding nation?).

For example, creating a TF with American Ships only makes a green TF. British or Australian crewed TFs are tan, and TFs that are either composed of French or New Zealander ships are blue. Japan is red.

Am I missing any country specific color?

Not quite, unless I'm mistaken ships from New Zealand make a blue TF and New Zealand is a Commonwealth nation.

I wish in the course of a game we could correct which flag is used for a base. For instance I don't really ever want to see a US flag in Burma, whether they were involved in the capture or not.

Yes, I noticed that this when I "retook" an unoccupied base in the DEI with a British unit (Under an ADBA HQ) and the flag flipped to the Union Jack. So now, Java is covered in a sea of Dutch flags and one Union Jack.

Not quite, unless I'm mistaken ships from New Zealand make a blue TF and New Zealand is a Commonwealth nation.
In the game, there are separate colours for Australian (bright green) and New Zealand (dark blue) forces because of the greater role they played in the Pacific War, not withstanding the fact that they were in the commonwealth too. So for the game purposes "Commonwealth" refers to the other nations of the commonwealth such as South Africa, Rhodesia and Canada.

India really ought to have its own colour because of the size of its contribution, but I suppose it was getting hard to get a colour that would be easy enough to differentiate from the others. As it is, a large Japanese unit has a muted red colour that is pretty close to the Russian colour!

I use a different color for India. We included a few other color palettes in the AE ART folder for the base symbols/aircraft symbols (based on nationality) and fleet symbols, etc. in order to allow players to assign these to individual nations. I use the golden color for India even though it is close to the CM khaki/brown palette. I have assigned Canada its own color as well.

Hope this helps!

You can pay PP to change the base HQ. Move a unit with the upper HQ you want to change it to into the base, then change the HQ.

Nice work there TOMLABEL. I can't distinguish any difference in hue between the first and the fifth sets. Are they the same?

And I am not sure how to implement them - I expect there is more to it than just putting them in the art folder?

You need to rename files. If you want India to be purple, rename Button8_IN to something else and rename Button8_spare3 to Button8_IN. This can be done on games in progress, no need to start the scenario over again, though you will need to re-open the game for changes to take effect.

That's an idea; however, it doesn't bother me that much. It's early game as the Allies and PP are pretty damn hard to come by.

The one that really chaps me is all ABDA bases become British so you can never redeploy any Dutch that you manage to make survive.

BBfanboy - thanks. Cathartes assisted me on the Button4 plane silhouettes as he provided all of those for that series.

Yes, they are the same. The first image "Button8_IN" is where I have renamed the fifth image "Button8_spare4" so that I could use it for India.

Excellent!! Thanks, Bill!!

Maybe there should be a sticky (after all these years!!!) on how to assign different colors to nations. Below are the 'button' sets for the dark cyan color (spare2 series). These show up when you open the base screens. You can rename these to represent the nationality you want to replace the color with.

You will notice there are several variations of 'Button4' in the ART folder. These represent the different aircraft frames that nations used for the same mission type. As you can see in the 2nd and 3rd image from the left, the RE, TB and other silhouettes are slightly different depending on the nation.

So choose the correct set for the nation you are wanting to change the color for. The 2nd image is the aircraft representing the Free French, Great Britain and India while the 3rd image represents the aircraft types used mostly by New Zealand.

In addition, there are replacement Map Icons that you will need to change if you want to change the color for a nationality. These provide the correct colors for the nationality when viewing the main map.

From the image below, you will see a colored (in this case for series 2, a dark cyan) flag placeholder (second one down). Here you will need to copy into this image the flag of the nationality you are changing the color for.

Also, in all of the 'spare' series of 'mapicons_X' files, the 4th symbol (the fleet symbol) will always be the basic lime green so that the opposing player will not be able to determine the nationality of the task force. So it would be best not to change the color of 4th image down as to retain secrecy.

Hope all of this helps!!

You can also load one of the button bmps into paint.net and adjust the color and save as a different file name.

That is correct for the button bmps, but be careful when altering the colors of the MapIcon spares. If you alter the pink color in any way, you are going to be in for a nasty surprise!!!

This might be a good one to put as a sticky in the Scenario Design and Modding sub-forum. If you or someone can start a thread with step by step instructions on how to do it, I'll promote it to a sticky.
