Public Beta hotfix 1.08.10

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

If I were to recall correctly, and I probably don't then...

If you try to transfer the hotfix file into the game ala transferring PBEM files, that doesn't work.

If you click "run" in the lower left hand of your main display screen, after the download is in the hard drive, or, double left-click "run" or "open" in the hard drive directory (downloads section) that does work.

Had it all written down but alas, as with all other written notes, that has disappeared into the ether.

Will continue to watch forums for some clarification, and, if not forthcoming will bumble around, clicking this and that, just like any other computer moron. Sigh :)

ps. non-steam

OK, lost on how to get this to work.

Don't use steam

I copied the attachment in the first post of this thread, named my old 'warintheeast.exe' to 'warintheeast_old.exe' and copied in the new 'warintheeast.exe' to my main War in the East directory (where the old .exe was).

Started the game as normal using the newly copied in 'warintheeast.exe' and the game starts up fine, but it still says 1.08.09 in the upper left corner of the screen inside the game.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks!

I see the same on startup - .09 in upper left. Look here:

That is correct for a hotfix. Only Exe version changes.

Found my old notes, hotfix install courtesy "Bozo".

Hey Joel, publish Hotfixes without application instructions, REAL good idea.

Unzip this into the Gary Grigsby's War in the East directory (this is just an exe update). Sorry for the inconvenience.
Depends on your browser. Lighten up dude.

FYI, due to an unexpected temporary shortage of Matrix production personnel, it looks like the next public beta installer will likely be delayed to next week. It's possible it might still make it out this week, but I've been told it's not likely. Sorry for the delay.

I am seeing an oddity in a new .10 PBEM start. Defense strength is frequently less than attack strength for units in clear terrain. I assume it is WAD - what changed?

So it's just telling you the truth. Attacker has a chance for an additional x2 CV multiplier (that the defender does not have, this allows to win a combat even if core CV ratio is 1:1), thus expected attack value is usually higher than expected defense value in clear terrain with no forts.

Did something happen to the airborne drops with this patch? I can't execute one as as the Soviets. May have already lost Leningrad as a result. I've noticed that the airborne brigades all have 10 or so tanks in them now. Might that block a drop?

No changes. Last time I checked drops worked. Tanks are not a problem, they would be removed before drop.

They're not dropping. I can make a drop in my own controlled territory, but the drop window showing the potential areas for a drop doesn't appear as it used to.

Here's a screen shot. It shows the highlighted hexes where a jump may be made, but only in friendly terrain. The portion of the window that used to show the jump eligible areas in enemy terrain is not showing up and the jump cannot be made in anything other than friendly territory.
