I consider Jim's reviews to be the best out there, especially when it comes to wargames. If I am thinking of buying a game that I am not familiar with, the first thing I look for is a review by Jim Cobb.

FONT size is important also. Whatever size the caps are in are what I need to see the text in games and even a little bigger would be nice. I've shyed away from a lot of games because of font size including EU:IV just recently. Even CKII is getting very hard to read on 1028x728 or thereabouts. Just somehow find a way to make all games with the lowest resolution you can. 800x600 I wouldn't scoff at. [&o]

Yes, I had the same problem with CK II. VMG helped.

Font size is definitely an issue we are aware of trying to deal with and is much more on our radar than font colour. Its easier when games are in 3D but for older engines there isn't really much developers can do. We often ask developers to make text larger and where they can they do but sometimes there are reasons it cant happen but please do keep complaining about it as it makes the developers aware its not just us being difficult and asking for larger text!

I am glad that you are raising font size, which is very important, but I hope you are not discounting the problem of font and background color, as it is a huge accessibility problem for many, as mentioned by people both in this thread and on the Slitherine Sengoku Jidai forum.ORIGINAL: Iain McNeil

For example, the font size in Sengoku Jidai seems fine to me, but the light background color cause me eyestrain and makes it unpleasant to play the game. This is a shame, as Sengoku Jidai is a brilliant treatment of a fascinating subject, even better than Pike and Shot campaigns.I was going to promote it on several wargaming forums, but cannot do so because of the eyestrain factor.
Developers might want to consider that making their games less accessible, especially to the grognard corps, may result in less sales and less recognition.
I respectfully request that you consider what you can do to make the games more accessible to those of us who have problems with font and background colors.
Iain, that said,I thank you for responding to the issue and showing some concern. I have been buying your games since Slitherine began, starting with the original Legion, and you have always shown that you care about your customers and share our love for these games.

Vaalen

ZakBlood and Bismarck (Jim Cobb): thank you both for your kind replies [:)]

Vaalen has tried to make OoBP readable with VMG - no joy on his part. What kind of customer service is this? I'll become more belligerent on this and, if Slitherine, retalates, I'll bring down the whole community of special needs upon them.

[:D] Ha, Ha, so you mean the 50 or so % of us that visit Matrix! If I were Matrix I'd be shivering in my boots just about now. We're some pretty ornery hombres.

With Bismarck's help and inspiration, The game is finally playable, as trying various resolutions and options finally enabled a magnifier to work. This was difficult and frustrating, and could have been avoided with a better choice of fonts and background colors. We should not have had to play tech support detectives to make this game accessible. I really think it is time for developers and game companies to take this issue seriously and do something constructive about it.ORIGINAL: Bismarck

I don't want a tool that just magnifies one part of the screen. I want the whole screen to be magnified back to the good old dsys resolution settings. Ever since they have been increasing resolutions they have been decreasing font size and I hate to think what the next generations eyes are gonna be like in their 50's and 60's. Please also for the love of gods don't use light green or lime green colors for text. I been Playing Mount and Blade lately and every week I can't see how much I made because all he numbers are in these ridiculous colors.
