For complicated work, GIMP. It's free and equivalent (roughly) to Photoshop. I also use Irfanview for the simple stuff.

Thanks, guys.[&o]

I have used paint.net in the past and like it.

I have tried Gimp and simply didn't have the time to put into learning it I recall.

Will look at Irfanview, as I like simple.[;)]

I get you on GIMP. It's like I have to refigure out what I'm doing every time I use it. There's lots of things I have no idea how to do, it's so flipping complicated.

I'd go with Irfanview. Quick and simple.

It's a graphics viewer rather than an editor (hard to create pictures from scratch) but it does have useful annotation features of adding lines, text, arrows, circles etc... Basically everything you need to do AAR screenshots.

Its real strength is its ability to crop, rotate and resize graphics and to convert them to different file formats.

I like to use Irfanview to convert screenshots to GIF file format. Even though GIF files are a little bigger than JPG and only have 256 colours, they don't have that annoying colour bleed that makes red text so hard to read at times. Irfanview does a good job on the conversion, MS Paint makes a horrible mess of the same task.

Edit: PNG graphics format is even better (supports more colours and packs tighter without colour bleed) but the matrix forum doesn't support this file type. [:(] [:@]

If you want simple, elegant and utterly brilliant then Snagit from Techsmith, but it is not free. It also does video capture so if you run it while playing a reply you can then 'rewatch' the key bit as many times as you like - or just if you are bored waiting for a new move to appear.

I got Irfanview up and running...and I will play with for a few turns.

I dislike the color bleed on text.

For being a "simple" program, Irfanview is really packed with quite a lot of possibilities.

It will take me quite a while to figure it all out and I haven't even touched the plugins for this program.

I think I will be quite happy using it.

Many thanks![&o][&o]
