How do I use the ADM-141C ITALD?

Post by stolypin »

I've tried assigning units with it to escort and SEAD missions. And I've tried simply firing it in the direction of enemy air defenses using bearing only attacks.

What is the correct way?

Last I checked they appear as unidentified and not hostile so without the appropriate AI ROE setting they won't be super effective. I apologize if this has been changed recently.

When I build scenarios, I always put exclusion zones around airfields and SAM sites, especially for the AI. This is especially true for naval ships in a potential war zone or high threat area. My feeling is scenario designers should always consider this as a solution to the un-IDed vs hostile aircraft. A similar solution is to change ROE on AD units to free fire on un-IDed.

Obviously, this is probably a 90% solution. There are times when you can't have a free fire zone. But in most of the situations you see in our scenarios, exclusion zones and ROE give you the tools you need.

I have never tried to get the program to fire the BOL through the Mission Assignment method. I don't know if it can be programmed to do that. Someone else will have to answer that. But, I have fired plenty of them manually and they all work perfectly. Pick the BOL and place the cross-hairs on the spot that you want the decoy to fly to, and that's it. The decoy launches and flies directly to that spot, at least until it is shot down. <G>

Sometimes it'd be nice to be able to assign missions to aircraft and have the AI take care of launching the decoys the same way it'd launch cruise missiles. If I designate an air defense site as a target for a strike mission, it ought to launch the decoys at it. The only difference is they don't have the potential to cause any meaningful damage.

Thing is with decoys.. As I understand it.. is if they come into visual range... They will be excluded as a threat... and that renders them unless....

Somebody tell me if I am wrong.....
