Off Map Mortars/Arty

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Off Map Mortars/Arty

Post by Deathtreader »

Hi,

I've noticed that off map arty/mortars seem to have unlimited range i.e. they can barrage anywhere on the map even if it's clear across the board. Not bad for an 88mm mortar [:D]

Maybe for Southern Storm some type of modification that somehow models range restrictions could be introduced for off map units??

Just a thought[:)]

So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)

I will take a look, but I thought we had a range cutoff for off map platforms. If not we need to add one in. [X(]

We will look at probably adding an aid to Southern Storm to help scenario designers note that the system's range is less than some percentage of the map distance and should appear on map versus off.

Hi,

Sounds good!

Does that mean there are currently no range limitation mechanics for off map platforms??

For Southern Storm maybe??

Just asking.

As above, we will be looking at having some kind of message for the scenario designer stating a range limitation at a minimum. We may be able to come up with some other idea down the road as well.

Likely will follow a 1/3 rule (1/3 of range is off map. 2/3 runs from map edge). Whatever we do will apply to counterfires, too.

There should be code doing that already. Something must have broken a version or two back. [:(]
