Production quantities

Post by Dili »

Anyone made some analysis if in game weapon production approaches quantities produced in real war? Tanks, artillery etc.?

For example how many 25 Pdr.? or 155 Howitzer, or 3.7" AA guns, 40mm Bofors.

I am positive many of the weapons types could not be given accurate figures for several reasons.
Before the war, in America in particular, FDR was fighting his own countrymen to produce weapons and gear the nation up for what he was sure was coming.
He had people going all over the country asking manufacturers if they would be able to turn their production lines into lines for weapon manufacture?.
The plants approached included those who had never made weapons before.
(The Colt M1911a1 I carried was made by the Remington typewriter company, for instance).
Serial number 2425471.

Too, while so-called "production figures" might be obtained by Ian Hogg, etc, they do not give a breakdown of what went where...Europe or Pacific or Russia, etc.

When Pearl was attacked auto lines such as Willow Run stopped making autos and went right to B 24's overnight.

Prior to the attack on Oahu FDR darned had to literally sneak weapons to the Brits, sometimes listing weapons as "farm implements", etc.

A good book explaining some of this deception during Americas period of Neutrality is in A MAN CALLED INTREPID, a great and detailed true story of espionage and a good behind the scenes look at how America worked hard to get the nation ready for the coming war.
