What’s new with the Russian army?

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

What’s new with the Russian army?

Interesting review and update.

What’s new with the Russian army?

January 13, 2016 VADIM MATVEYEV, TATYANA RUSAKOVA,RBTH

RBTH has investigated how public attitudes to army service have changed and what kinds of reforms to military training, procurement, research and military education have been carried out in the last three years.

"The Russian Army was afflicted by a significant moral and material decline after the collapse of the Soviet Union. But over the last seven years, the Russian Army has been able to revive itself and become one of the most efficient armies in the world. Over the past year, Russia has played an active role in military operations and major training exercises, as well as continuing army reforms that began back in 2008".

Russia ranked world’s 2nd military power after U.S.

February 17, 2016 MARINA KARPOVA, RBTH

An annual ranking that assesses nations’ military capabilities has named Russia the world’s second most powerful country in the world after the United States.

Russia has the world’s second most powerful military, according to the annual ranking made by Global Firepower, an analytical website exploring the military power of different countries.

The United States headed the list, while China was ranked third in the rating, which does not include nuclear weapons, only conventional ones.

No surprises there, really. Of course, no one really knows until you get into a real donnybrook of like vs. like. Which, I hope, never happens, so I'm happy to live with ambiguity.

Well. Still very interesting. Gives some current perspective on things. Obviously I do hope no one wants to see those ranks to put to test. I do like specially the first post. A nice overview of the russian military reforms and modernization from recent years, involving several aspects from organization to research.

Yeah, it's an interesting read. It seems there is a mix of what we might call westernization with more traditional Russian military traditions.
