Windows xp save error

Post by congoo »

hi
i am aware xp may not be supported but i might as well try to see if any one can help.
great great great love it i cant wait to play .
it will save when i do not have any updates.
when i update to version v101.exe i get this error upon saving.

me.exe:[ERROR ID 102]{misc.cpp,line 1946,logit{}} logs\engine.log file open error

i can save when i havent updated game but i do get the same error message but it does save. And i can reload, The message just appears but doesnt seem to effect the save.
with the update the error message appears straight away and no saving takes place there is a save file in save folder but it is 0 bytes .

It seems like your installation might somehow be messed up.

Try uninstalling. Make sure your game folder is gone. In Windows Explorer, remove manually if necessary.

Then reinstall v1.00a, and patch to v1.01.

Good luck.

Hi
No didnt work.I have tested on friends computer both have windows xp installed same problem .Have redownloaded game installation just in case of bad download.Have installed beta 102 update same problem .
When the game is not updated i can save it ,i still get the error message. But i can reopen these saves.
But when updated (with either update) and saved i can not replay these saves the save files are 0 bytes.
Have attached the engine.log and frontend.log there seems to be a lot of .BMP files not found.
is there any thing else i can do.

thanks

No didnt work.I have tested on friends computer both have windows xp installed same problem .Have redownloaded game installation just in case of bad download.Have installed beta 102 update same problem .
Let's take this step by step.

Your engine.log says this:

Robert@roberto /cygdrive/c/Temp
$ head engine.log
2008-07-28 01:15:16 me.exe: [INFO ID 1] me.exe 1.00 startup
2008-07-28 01:15:16 me.exe: [INFO ID 1] command line parameters: -W -o saves\batt11le.btl
...

Your frontend.log says this:

Robert@roberto /cygdrive/c/Temp
$ head frontend.log
2008-07-28 01:15:06 Middle East.exe: [INFO ID 1] Middle East.exe 1.00 startup
...

To begin with, it appears that either

[*]you have not installed the 1.02 Open Beta UPDATE properly
[*]or in any case you are not in fact running the 1.02 UPDATE

because look at the version #s displaying in the .log files.

Perhaps even more troubling, look at the log entry dates: 2008-07-28

It appears your system's date is set wrong!

We can't debug your game run/file save issues until these more basic problems are fixed.

Thanks for helping.
Sorry i hadnt installed the 102 that time i have been trying different setups to see if i could get it to work.I have now installed 102 beta.
I opened a senario and moved a couple of units around then saved. I got a error message. Then the game closes itself. The save file is in the save folder but has 0 bytes.
I have noticed the unit viewer does not work. It is installed and the settings look like this
East Front=
West Front=
Rising Sun=
Middle East=
i am not so bothered about the unit viewer myself but thought it might help in the over all problem.
thanks

Don't forget that you need to install the game, then install the 1.01 UPDATE, then add the 1.02 BETA with the Mod utility we included in the game.

So the attached engine.log -- this is the engine.log just after you did the failed File > Save As operation?

Next step: Post a screenshot of Windows Explorer, showing your Campaign Series Middle East install folder, and all subfolders. In the same screenshot, or in a separate one, please also show Windows Explorer with a Details listing of the 0-byte save file -- i.e., show the contents of the saves folder.

Several things to try:

[*]In Windows Explorer, delete all files in your saves folder. Then retry saving files there in-game.
[*]In Windows Explorer, delete the saves folder. Then create it anew. Then retry saving files there in-game.
[*]Don't use battle.btl as your save file. Use something else.
[*]In the game, be sure to use File > Save As. Before saving the file, make sure you are saving it to the saves folder.
[*]Try running the game as Administrator? (Is there such a capability in Windows XP?)

There is some weird systems issue involved here. Let's hope we find it.

Yes tried them all no luck yet. I am running in
administrator that is default mode when you install xp.
(i think).
The administrator is the head and the user is
a member by default.New guests accounts have to somehow
get permission i dont know about all that never done
it.
You said to delete the remaining installation folder
in a earlier post. After uninstall. Which i have
done. However there must be a file somewhere else
because the music settings are set to "on" on the very
first ever install.
I turned them all off straight away and after many
reinstallations they are always off everytime.I have
looked in application data where i feel games put stuff
like that but i did not find it and i have used search function but
still can not find.Of course this properly doesnt have
anything to do with my problem but i like to be trying
different things myself.
thanks

At this point, all I can suggest is to wait a few weeks until we release the next ME 1.02 Open Beta UPDATE. At that time, I can send you a special debug version of the game engine EXE. With that, we can then dig deeper into what the problem is here. Sorry we can't make this happen sooner.

Thats fine and thanks a lot for helping i just hope in the end it will be found.I myself am trying out different ideas .And i can play the base/un updated game because the error message is there but the save file is saved and is reloadable,so its not stopping me for playing completely.
thanks

Hi Everyone,
I recently downloaded and installed Middle East on my old XP computer and am experiencing the same save error as Congoo (same error messages exactly as he submitted). Luckily I have a Windows 8.1 install on a separate machine so I am able to play the game with full functionality. Just wanted to let all concerned know that this error is not isolated to just his system.

Thanks!

After the next ME 1.02 Open Beta UPDATE is out (soon), we can attempt to debug these issues further.

We're off the hook, because Windows XP is no longer a supported platform, right? [;)] [:'(]

Still, we'll see what we can do.

Thanks for the report.
